    RE 17 ignition

I mentioned my on again off again ignition problems To Ed Hubel the other day (By email)

He had several sugguestions but the very first one was to make sure I roll crimped to 2.65 inches or shorter (With 3" shells).

I'll be honest, I haven't been paying attention to the LOA.

I just measured a few that I had trouble with and guess what. 2.796".

The lack of compression may well be the source of my erratic shells.

Hello Peter you need a drill press with a depth gauge to stop the crimping when you reach the right length. Consistancy is the name of the game when it comes to ignition and launch.
Also next time buy Fed.209A primers for they are hot and will ignite your RE17 powder maybe better. Deeper roll crimp will help built pressure before it releases the sabot/bullet.
Peter pay attention to little details for they play a important role.

    Got one Ajay.
I'm too used to the loading press doing the thinking for me. Fold crimps are easier.
