Kriol?? Sounds like some evil villian. Kroil can be bought from various sources, I got mine from Brownells. It is a penetrating oil as far as I know. Smells good too.

    Kroil
Its good for cleaning and prepping bores on rifles and hand guns and it has been used for breaking in cast iron molds.
Every bench top should have a can sitting on it.

You can also order it direct from the manufacturer.

I got mine from the dealer - a 2 can 'introductory' deal. Forgot how much, but it was reasonable and I received it quickly.

Watch MidSouth and MidwayUSA for a sale on Kroil. Like Leadforbrains said, every bench ought to have a can.

I started using Kroil in machine shop work and auto repair. It is used in the firearms trade also which was shown to me by one of my many mentors. It is great for taking care of leaded bores and such. Once you use it your bench will always have room for a can. Look up Kano Kroil on the PC.

I think it is ok but nothing great. It is a penetrating oil, yes, and not a bad one, but nothing I can't mix up with homemade ingredients cheaper.

Search 'penetrating oil test' and you'll find that a homebrew of light oil or transmission fluid and acetone actually works a lot better.

Yeah but kroil won't hurt the finish of a stock like acetone will.

Ok, you have been involved in firearms for how long? I read this and wonder if you were abducted by aliens in the 1940s are returned this week. Kroil has been the Gun oil for as long as I can remember on the benchrest scene. Walk down the line at any major match and you'll see as many bottles of Kroil as you will Harrell powder measures.

    Wiljen,

It was not the aliens, it was all the David Karesh sermons in Waco, TX. Waco thought they were for him..

I like kroil but it does turn to a sticky varnish over time. It is a good penetrant but not so good a lubricant IMO. I keep several cans around. Kano does sell several variations other than the kroil most gunnies have on their bench, one of which is a lubricant.

For automotive work, it the best penatrating oil i've ever got my hands on. I love it!

I was a ford dealership technician, and ford called for it by name for some applications. I've seen it do things no other penatrating oil would. I've had exhaust bolts so rusted that they take a size smaller socket. spray (aero-kroil), soak 5 min, hammer on size smaller socket, and take them out.

Using it on guns is a new thing to me. I like it there , too.

It is expensive, we got it from our local auto parts store (special ordered a case for us), but worth it.

Waco, if your ever up around Portland, Clackamas auto parts in Oregon city has the spray version, Aero-kroil, for $17 an industrial size spray can. It's well worth it to me.

PM me if you want their phone / address.

+1 on the free Kroil. The web site has a special of 2 16 oz spray cans delivered to your door for $12 as stated above. I called the number and in just days my two cans were delivered. 1/2 the price of normal purchase so it's getting a can free.
