Howdy all….just a quick question. When I was 15 years old or so I built a .50 CVA Hawken from a kit (I think it looks pretty good for a 15 year old). I knew little more about muzzleloaders than what read in books(remember the good old days before computers), during one of my outings I had a misfire that I could not correct no matter what I did! It was loaded with a pure lead Minnie that resisted efforts to pull it(resulting in a broken ramrod). Not being overly edumicated on steel my brother and I decided to dismount the barrel. We tried, unsuccessfully, to get the touch hole liner or the breech plug loose. So we later started a fire, then put the breach end in it and sand bag the barrel down (pointed at a steep creek bank).Well when it got hot enough, the shot went off! I was unaware of the possible heat damage to the barrel until I entered HS and took Ag. Welding. Ok it wasn’t so quick of a question, sorry. It was never fired after the heating incident and I’m wondering if it’s ok to shoot or should I get a new barrel?
