And another adventure : 357 Herrett

Welp it's been a while time for another one of my little posts where I clueless bumble into a new caliber or something with cast bullets

Anyhow! ,that's to y'all on here I now have a SLIGHT addiction to odd ball cartridges on the contender platform and spend at least 10 min every other day looking for barrels on eBay ..... My wife and bank account send their regards So far I have a 45/410, 7mm tcu , 30 herrett and after that I was told about it's bigger ...and apparently better sister the .357 herret ! And after a lil searching and some.luck happens to find one on eBay ! That some dies and a new brass cutter jig and we are good to go

So the outside is a lil dinged up

But the bore is just MINT

And let me tell you ..trying to find a set of dies for this caliber is a BEAR . A fella over on 24hr campfire had a barely used complete set and sold it to me for a steal though !

Even came with the lil case forming die.

Alrighty, so still have a good mabye prepped .357 cast bullets from my lil endeavor with .357 mag so we can skip all the casting and go right to what many find the meat and tater of these wild cats and that's the case forming! So even though I have the case forming die i didn't really wanna sit there with a hack saw so decided to just try what I found works with making 30 herrett .

So first off gonna go ahead and form up some brass . Just gonna do the usual, 30-30 shell holder die all the way down till it touch plus a lil .

I'm using brand new starline 30-30 brass just because.... Honestly for the prices once fired and don't other reasons ...it's just easier and cheaper to buy and use some good new ... Don't need Lapua... But starline is well worth it imo.
    But lil Imperial

And we have a regular 30-30 on the left and a one that went thought the herrett die on the right

I got more pictures to post but I'm kinda tired so I'll be back tomorrow

You're gonna have fun, I certainly did. Mine liked 250 grain jacketed spitzers - heresy I know! I don't remember the brand of bullet or the powder though.

    Enjoy and keep us posted.

As I recall my first contender barrel was a 357 Herrett. It’s been nearly 30 years and I don’t recall if it was a 10” or 14” I do recall it would group under 2” for 3 shots at 100 yds with a 200 gr WFN I cast from ww’s. If memory serves it was doing about 2000 fps and fueled with AA1680. Why did I get rid of it? I was fickle and couldn’t afford to keep every contender barrel I fancied. I also thought a 357 maximum would give near the same performance without having to form brass, and that proved to be mostly true.

Anyhow, a good old round that will treat the bullet caster well
