Update: ok did a real good chamber cast today, chamber length 2.105, not bad, than an approximately a 30 degree lead that is .075 long to riffling. Here’s the kicker riffling is lands .4495 and grooves .4555. Case mouth is .483 in dia. Minus
Case wall thickness leaves a .461 dia. Bullet, so when bullet obstrates to chamber it has to size down to grooves
The math tells me .0055 that bullet is sizing down. That sounds like way to much. Correct me if I’m wrong , but I think no matter what bullet I use it’s going to lead the boar. What do you all think.

Most of the excess lead shaving down to the barrel measurements should be absorbed by the lube grooves.wide lube grooves will help keep lube pumping on the barrel.
It might well be worth getting ahold of some 461 bullets to try, as with smaller bullets are still liable to give gas cutting blowby

That’s a 34” barrel, right? I think you can guess what I’m thinking.

Jim it is but so is my 74 Shiloh and I shoot the same bullet in it . No leading. But tighter chamber and .458 groove dia. So, I still think that pushing a bullet that is .0055 bigger than bore is to big. But I don’t know that for sure. I would just like to figure out the why. If not I’ll take the long range hoke sight off sell that and then

You are likely right I think about the small groove diameter and the big chamber. Possibly a 2 diameter bullet with most of it seated out into the bore would improve things. My first sharps was a Pedersoli with a similar really small groove diameter. That was a long time ago and was my first Sharps. I mostly shot smokeless with hard bullets in it.
Personally I'd sell it since you already have a Shiloh. I switched to shooting Shiloh's and am very happy I did. I also wouldn't worry too much about a 34" barrel. I have a few 34" barreled Shiloh's and they don't have leading problems even when I used to drive down and shoot in the hot and dry parts of America. But like you I wipe between shots. When it's really hot I'll increase the number of patches I run through the bore.

Another option is have it rebarreled. Fella ant have to many rifles

What I was getting at was, you have enough barrel to have it set back, re chambered, and still have 31”+. All you really need for a 45-70 is 30”.
