Shot a new to me, Uberti 1885 Hi Wall in .348 win today, I like it.

I got a heck of a deal thru a friend of a friend,had to wait 2 weeks to get it. It is a Uberti Hi Wall in .348 Win as the title says, with a 32"ocatagon barrel, nice wood, beautiful case colors. A guy had it for long time and decided to get rid of it and the single shots were not selling well,especially one most folks had never heard of the caliber. It had a Italian globe with a huge bead in it that covered up about 5"at 100 yds.I replace the front sight with a rocky mountain silver blade and started shooting it with some 200 gr Hornad soft points I had loaded up. 4 shots at 25 yds had the buckhorn fold down rear barrel sights and the Marbles short peep sight zeroed and I went to 100 yds. I shot one shot ata 6"plate with both sets of sight, both hit 6"low. I clicked the elevator up 2 notches on the barrel buckhorn and shot 2 shots, one was 1.5"high and one was 1.5"low,both would have been in a deers heart, I called that good to go with iron sights. I folded the irons down and flipped the peep sight up,and the first shot was about 1.5" high pretty well dead center. I shot 2 more and all 3 were touching snuggled up in about a 1"wad,I was very pleased with that out of these nearly 64 year old eye. After 11 shots I was starting to feel the crescent buttplate. I had a leather slip on lace up pad but the reach was too long for me.I have some bullets molded up for it, waiting on a custom sizing die to get here from buffalo arms. I may get TBG to post some pics later.

That’s a nice rifle in an uncommon (for a highwall) chambering.
With normal strength .348 loads, I’ll bet the crescent buttplate does get tiring !

I had to go look that caliber up. I have a Uberti 1885 High Wall in 38-55 so your post caught my eye. Seems like you have quite a rare rifle there. Here's an excerpt from Wikipedia:

"No other rifle was ever offered in .348 by Winchester (although Uberti has made some 400 rifles chambered for the .348 in the Cimarron 1885 Hi-Wall in the mid-2000s), and it has been supplanted by the .358 Winchester (in the Model 88). (The Model 71 was discontinued in 1958.)"

Thanks guys, the recoil was not bad as you think it would be. The buttplate settles in the fold of the bicep and does not bite at all, just more of a a hard push, but I am getting soft in my old age, LOL. I don't mind the recoil as long as the accuracy Is there.

With a medium range load, or using .33 Winchester load data it will be a sweetie to shoot. I was never crazy about the .348 factory loads as it was a pretty powerful cartridge. But loaded to around 1350-1450 fps it will be a wonderful rifle, especially with cast bullets.

Val I have some 200 gr bullets cast for it and some gas checks, just waiting on a custom sizing die from Buffalo Arms, should be here in about a week.

I personally wouldn't use .348 Winchester data unless the owner wants hot loads.

I have your rifle in double set trigger configuration in 348, along with some Winchester and Browning model 71's and two of the new production Ruger No.1's in 348, which I was fairly responsible for (I begged Lipseys for a decade to make it, they finally did, and gave me credit for it in a recent podcast about the No.1 348). The Uberti 1885's in that chambering are sweet rifles, and pretty rare. Congratulations, and enjoy it!
