Mold for 32 H&R and S&W long

I picked up one of the new Heritage Arms revolvers in 32 H&R mag. I'm looking at picking up a revolver in 32 S&W L as well in the future. I have the Lee TL314-90-SWC and it casts nice bullets and drops them .314 - .315 which is what the throats on this gun measure. I've got some loaded in new Starline brass, but haven't gotten it to the range yet. Looking to get a +/- 100 SWC that has more cavities and am looking at two that Arsenal Molds sells.

The first is their copy of the RCBS 32-98-SWC https://arsenalmolds.com/products/32...47572557299971 I have read very good thing about this boolit.

The second looks to be more of a Keith type boolit https://arsenalmolds.com/products/32...47572560183555 . This one looks like it has more bearing surface and a shorter nose. Where the RCBS clone looks almost like a rnfp.

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with one or both of these as far as accuracy, loading, etc.

I have the second mold you mention, the Keith. I haven't had any problem with it. I use it in 32 S&W Long, 32 H&R Magnum, and 327 Fed Mag. First I bought an aluminum mold then I bought a brass mold. I like the brass better.

The RCBS 98 is a good bullet but seats shallowly in the case meaning it takes more powder to get the same speed at less pressure.

A more deeply seated type like the second mould mentioned is a good contrast and it is well worth getting both. Deeper seated bullets have benefits in reducing velocity variation.

I agree the RCBS bullet is more of a RNFP to my eye as the shoulder of the bullet is very modest. Probably makes no difference in effect when striking something.

The Accurate 31-120K is a mould I have and like. It is too much bullet for the 32 Long. Have no experience with your second linked bullet. For the Long I hold to 100 grains or less.

I have used the RCBS boolit in the 32-20, the 32 H&R, and the 32 S&W long with complete satisfaction. However, I think either would do you well. If you have a 6 cavity of the Lee TL314-90-SWC, I'd just go with that, for I think that any of the three will serve you well in the calibers you mention. The only drawback with the RCBS boolit is it is too long to work in the .327 Mag, but you didn't ask about that.

You should probably decide what you want to do first. I like the lee swc for target shooting and plinking. I really like the RCBS bullet when you push it a little faster. I have a post WW II 32 long I frame and don't go over 3.2 gr BE with the lee mold. The others including a 3118 are used for target plinking and small game. I carry it for woods and sagebrush bumming and like the heavier bullet for that.

Look on Fleabay, RCBS molds go cheap there. That said, I'm very happy with my Arsenal molds and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

I've pretty much given up on fleabay. Last week there was a rusty 2 cavity Ideal 32 swc on fleabay. Looked a lot like the RCBS swc, 31357 I think. Went way past my max. bid and winning bid was $99. For that much I can get one of the 5 cavity Arsenal molds. I have an Arsenal clone of the RCBS 35-158-swc and it a fantastic mold, so I know they are quality molds.

The 31357 is highly sought after by the 32-20 fans. $99 in decent condition would be cheap for some.

The Lyman and Ideal molds tend to go high there. I think alot of people don't even know RCBS makes molds, because there are always bunches of them just sitting on GB and Fleabay at more than reasonable prices with no takers. Especially the .38/.357 molds. A .32 mold will take more searches to find but they do show up, I've seen quite a few. But yeah, for the same money or less I'll gladly take a new Arsenal mold over a used iron mold with unknown history.

I have the Arsenal mold you mentioned. I use it in my 6 1/2” Ruger Single Six with great accuracy.

The RCBS 32-98-SWC has worked well in my five .32 H&R's as well as a pair of .32-20's. My Ruger Single Sixes and a Smith M16 will keep five shots with that bullet in less than 2" at 25 yds. The RCBS mold casts well with wheel weight alloy with minimal problems with fill out. I use straight ACWW for muzzle velocities up to 1150 fps with no leading. For the above I size to 0.313" and use the old NRA 50-50 lube. Accurate Molds makes a duplicate with a slightly longer nose section. Best regards, Rod

I have 11 molds in the range of .313-.316 cast diameter. The most satisfactory mold is a Saeco #325, weighs 98 grains and always gives up the tightest groups regardless of the firearm they are fired from. My second best mold is a primitive Ideal tong tool that is branded "32 NP" (as in New Police) bullets weigh 105 grains and produces extremely tight groups but not as tight as the Saeco. Its always a challenge on which of these to use but both of these molds will be with me until the end.

I have used the 3118 (aka 311008) Ideal/Lyman mould for 32 H&R, and occasionally for 32 S&W L. At 118 gr it was good for the H&R for all around use, but I thought it a little more than the S&W L needed. If I had to get one bullet for both, I’d look for a 95-105 gr SWC. That would probably be the best all around for both. I was gifted some Lyman 313631 bullets from a mould that had the GC groove reamed out. Beagle introduced me to them and that one bullet would be my choice for virtually every 32 revolver round if I had to just use one bullet.

Thanks for all the input guys! After all the suggestions here and other places, I just ordered a 5 cavity RCBS 32-98-SWC clone from Arsenal Molds. Their site said "3 weeks if out of stock" so we'll see how long it takes to get here.
I did get the revolver to the range a couple weeks ago. Loaded some of the TL314-90-SWC with 3.1 gr. of W231. Also, digging around in my stash I found a box of 90 gr. Sierra HC j-word bullets. I loaded those with 5.5 gr. of some old W540 I have. The loads all shot well. Wasn't really shooting for groups, but they all clustered together fairly well. The gun shot about 6" left at 25 yards so will probably need to tweek the front sight a little bit. Overall though, what a fun gun to shoot!
