Indian Made Short Land Brown Bess - US marked

Taking the plunge again on one of the Indian made flintlocks. I've had good luck on several of them in the past buying the non-firing versions then drilling the flash holes and proof testing. Have only needed to reharden the frizzen on one so far. In any case, in preparation for the 250th birthday and to provide another option for my Rev War impression I've ordered the Short Land version to compliment the Long Land version. Still have the necessary paper cartridge making tools, extra flints, and plenty of 2F.

Main question on this one is whether to do a US marking on it to denote issuance to U.S. forces during the war. I've seen the US carved into the buttstock, a US stamped into the rear portion of the lock beneath the TOWER marking, or on the top of the barrel over the breech area.

Does anyone have a definitive reference of which was more usual?

From what I have read the US Marines preferred the Bess to the Charleville type. Evidentially the Indians might be making a replica of a US Marine musket from the late 1790's.

They are already making the 1766/1767 Charleville Marine version with brass fittings. For the Rev War this is appropriate.
