Looks like I messed up my Magma Star sizer resizing a linotype 30 cal boolit

Looks like a weld to me ,I do not want to try a small weld so I will use jbweld on end of crank shaft were it inserts into arm.
Any suggestions welcome.

I would have to wonder if that was a repair to replace a bent or twisted shaft. I am not as familiar with Magma crank shafts, but I did order one from Magma a few years back but sent it back when I learned the diameter was larger than Star's. I didn't notice having a two piece construction, but I didn't spend a lot of time with it.

If the parts have a close slip fit than rather than JB Weld I would use some Loctite 620, plus drill it and put a pin through it. If there is a fair amount of slop in the fit than JB Weld might be the way to go but I would still put a pin through the parts.

620 takes a while to cure. It can be sped up buy curing in an oven for 6-8 hrs at 250F.

Silver solder might be another option.

As rbwillnj says, put a pin through it for mechanical grip. Personally I can't imagine any glue (glue alone) would hold up to that much pressure over time.

It looks like the end of that shaft was also broken off of something. Maybe someone machined the shaft down and fit it to the other part and tack welded it after it initially broke? Only looking at the ends of the shafts this is just a wild guess. I like JB Weld but I don't think it will hold up here. Prep for a weld with bevels and put a couple decent heavy spots on it.

Yes the end of the shaft does look broke, problem is I bought it new from Magma Eng so it’s difficult to know what happened or how it was put together.I will have to ask a friend if he has the skills to weld it

Thank GOD , kinda funny how things work out. I took the mess to work to grind down the old welds and put a slight bevel on it, got that done and a customer walked in that had a shop 1 street over, I showed him the mess and BAMMM! he took it to his shop and fixed it nicely , NO CHARGE.

I was resizing a Linotype 30 cal boolit last night and on the downstroke to resize a boolit something broke on the lever , I have lost all power to resize a boolit.It still moves up and down but NO power to push a boolit down into the die.
Help appreciated

I only broke my sizer working with water quenched bullets that were hard as a rock. I broke the wax reservoir column. It was a Phelps knockoff of the Star. I bought it as a Star and didn't know it was Phelps until I sent it back to Magma to repair!
