According to my brief research, Lacquer thinner has some acetone in it, but also other organic compounds. You could mix up a small batch and see if it works.

OTOH, you can get small bottles of acetone in the lady's cosmetic section. It is sold as nail polish remover.

I was thinking a test batch would be the way to go, I have ATF and varsol in the shop currently but I’m out of acetone and kerosene. Have lots of diesel and lacquer thinner, can’t hurt to mix a mason jar up with those and see, easy enough to find acetone and kerosene/camp fuel if it doesn’t.

I dropped the acetone from mine. It works just as well for my purposes. I think acetone is more beneficial for corrosive primers and shotguns with plastic shot cups.

Kerosene can be hard to find and most gas stations don't carry it. I have a heater and there is only place 20 min away that has it. Try and do a local google search. Large hardware stores have it but it is expensive.

Coleman fuel will be too volatile. You want hardware store mineral spirits paint thinner.

If K-1 Kero is unobtanium, every hardware store has lamp oil (which is the cleanest kero you will find this side of Jet A).

Coleman fuel will work as a solvent, but I wouldn't recommend it. You may as well use gasoline.

K-1 Kerosene is made for use in Hurricane Lamps , Tiki Torches and Kerosene Heaters ... I buy it by the quart or gallon at the Wally Mart ... Crown brand and is more refined than regular pump kerosene ... I prefer it for Ed's Red Bore Cleaner .

Tractor Supply sells 5 gallon totes of kerosene for their space heaters. I buy one or two in the spring when it’s marked down for clearance and use it in the parts washer. I think it gives better results than diesel.

The local Walmart sporting's good department had one gallon jugs of kerosine. Mixed some up tonight and comes out a very pretty red. Worked good on cleaning the rifle bore.

I mix Ed's Red for maintaining the guns from our shooting club and use it for about 1,5 year now with Isopropanol (IPA) instead of acetone.
