A new case lube ?

I had bought a can of PB Blaster Surface Shield rust protectant to use on lawn tools and stuff. On the can it says that it was lanolin based.

So for fun I sprayed a few .308 cases and tried sizing them. It worked pretty good so I put a paper towel in the bottom of a shallow box and dumped a bunch of cases that were ready to size, sprayed them and tossed them around to spread it letting the excess go into the paper towel . After letting them sit to let the solvent evaporate I started sizing them. This stuff worked better than most of the stuff I have used. I will have to run them through the tumbler to get it off but have had to do that with other lubes also.

After sitting for a day thy have a vary light film on them, but think that it's still enough that thy could be sprayed and left for awhile before sizing.

I think I have found my new favorite case lube.

It's lanolin with some sorta solvents in it, tried looking for an MSDS with no results but right on their site they say it's lanolin based

I have a spray can of Fluid Film for touch ups on my car that has way more lanolin and no solvent and a 5gal bucket of Fluid Film glop that was $170 shipped that gets sprayed on my car every fall. I'll use the pure stuff on a foam pad for a couple cases but for lots of cases it's mixed with alcohol and shaken in a coffee can.
I've used this bicycle chain wax and quite like it but it's more expensive per case lubed than HEET+Fluid Film. Smells great though, like Malibu and bananas

I have one and a half tins of Imperial sizing wax. At 75, I will likely never use the full tin. At $10-12/tin, why mess with anything else?

It is always fun to find new substitutes. I have been using lanolin and iso heet in the red bottle. works well but and overdose can cause heck getting it off the case.

I use Hornady Unique lube. It has lanolin in it too

PEG75 lanolin and mix it 1:10 with 99% isopropyl alcohol.

What dverna said. As long as there’s Imperial Sizing wax all other options are a solution in search of a problem. Use a very little wipe the sized case with a paper towel dampened with non ammonia widow cleaner good to go.

Agree completely, those 2oz tins seem to last forever. If it’s good enough to re-size brass for case forming, it’s good enough to lube does and brass for standard sizing too.

This works way better than using a case lube pad. It's easy to make, and a pump spray bottle of it usually lasts at least a year between refills. Also, its super easy to spray the base end of cases when swaging primer pockets, and makes that operation a lot easier. Mostly washes off with hot soapy water - then 15 minutes in a case tumbler gets rid of the last traces of it.

First time I've heard of peg75 lanolin. 'Water soluble lanolin'. How does that work, and where do you get it? Sounds like it would be an easy clean up vs the oily lanolin.

15 minutes in the case cleaner and thy came out beautiful.

The spray nozzle had dried up and clogged it up but cleaned up with some isopropyl alcohol making wounder if the solvent was alcohol.

Along time ago I read a thing about how most of the gun cleaning and lube stuff sold was just repackaged stuff made for different industrial uses. I wounder if we may all be using the same thing packaged differently.

First time I've heard of peg75 lanolin. 'Water soluble lanolin'. How does that work, and where do you get it? Sounds like it would be an easy clean up vs the oily lanolin.

I didn't bother with the water soluble version. Use a chemical safe sprayer with the 99% anhydrous alcohol/lanolin solution and dump brass in tumbler with fine cob when finished sizing. Brass is clean and ready to load in 15mins.

GONRA used STP Oil Treatment for my "Range Lead" Auto Pistol reloading....
Messy - but NO SWEAT - all bullet lube grooves are inside the loaded cartridge case.

I use Imperial sizing wax for most of my sizing. I keep a nylon brush with some RCBS case lube (re-applied every 5 to 10 cases) to treat inside the necks.

One project I had accumulated about 3 gal of 5.56 range PU cases that I wanted to prep by sizing/depriming/swaging. I sprayed the bucket of cases with WD-40 & massages it in stirring by hand. Didn't over do it, just enough so all cases had a light coat. All cases went through the SB die fine with nothing stuck or broke. All cases were then SS pin tumbled to clean them up. Just FYI...
