What lube should I buy?

I am a novice bullet caster. I have a lyman 450 sizer. I am confused as to what lube to order from brownells. I plan to case 6.5 mm bullets and 35 rem bullets. Velocity to run about 1700 fps. What do you suggest. Thanks in advance for you help.

Does your 450 have the heater? If so, the blue, or maybe red from them should fill your need. I was looking to replace my favorite, but discontinued lube and was referred to them.
I received my "free" (pay shipping) 1/3 stick samples of both their Red and Blue in the mail yesterday. Needless to say, I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

I use White Label 50/50 most of the time, and I have used their BAC lube with good success. I need to order some more BAC since I'm out except for what I melted out of the lubesizer.

the only lube ive used in probably 20 years is white label carnauba red. you will need a heater on your 450. I think what caught my attention was the 2500 fps. but what kept me using it is that I use it on everything I cast except 38 spl wadcutters. from 22 hornet to 444 marlin, pistol and rifle rounds. and as long as my bullet is sized usually .002 oversized. ive have not experienced any leading at all or problems at all. I'm sure other lubes they sell work just as well but this is what I use. there is never a need to boil out the lubesizer because something put in it is no good. this lube sticks to the bullet, never goes bad and just plain works with everything.

Another vote for White Label Lube.
One of there lubes made for rifle velocities. Carnauba Red or Blue, or Xlox Plus 2500. A lot of folks use and love Carnauba Red, including myself.

There is something to be said about having one lube that does it all and being able to get to 2500 fps is a nice feature.

As for 1700 fps, almost anything is going to work, but someday you might want to stretch it out a bit. I stocked up on the carnuba red for SHTF for the reasons fambif stated.

If I was going to stay in the 1700 fps range I would try BLL (Ben's Liquid Lube). Do a search for it.

I've been using 50-50 lube for the last 50 years with no problems at all. I started out with Javelina 50-50 and went to White Label when Javelina went out of business. I've tried some others along the way, BAC, Caranuba Red, Ben's, but did not see that they offered any advantage so stayed with 50-50. I use it on rifle & pistol bullets with velocities ranging from 800-2000 fps, no leading, no accuracy problems attributable to the lube.

red is another good choice however you may want to get a heater for your 450

Be sure and select a lube that can be used with or without a heater... my Lyman 450 does Not have a heater so I use Soft Lubes ...
If Your 450 has a heater you can use the Hard Lubes ...
White Label Lubes are good stuff ... if you have questions ... call them ... They are very helpful .

I'm going to add another benefit of using lube that needs a heater in the lube sizer, quite a few times I have used gas checks that did not stay on very well. a dab of bullet base in melted lube on base of bullet before putting on gas check before running bullet though the lube/size die sticks it real well. it doesn't take much, not a gob but a swipe or dab works perfect.

White Label Lubes are the way to go. I like the 2500 in my unheated Lyman 450, even in the winter. Nice folks to do business with as well.

Another vote for knitepoet's recommendation for the white label lube's lube. I have used several of his lubes for many years and will stay with it until it is no longer available.

Make your own! A tube of automotive Molydisulfide grease, a stick of Johnson's Stick wax or saw blade wax when sawing aluminum available at a machinist supply store and an equal amount of bees wax. Works great Melt it and pour in in the sizer tube. I have 5 Star sizers and 4- Lymans. Heaters attached to the sizer helps in cooler climates.

I used Veral Smiths Soft Blue for years but it , like Veral is gone now so I make my own Ben's Red . It's cheap enough and easy to make and I like to piddle and it is great for anything I will need . It I did not make my own I would use the above suggested White Label lubes .

My Lyman 450 does not have a heater. I warm it with an electric heat gun. This works well for all of the harder lubricants.
