Hollow Based Paper Patched In Whitworth Or Volunteer Rifles

In the .451 Whitworth or Volunteer rifles does anyone use hollow based paper patched?

I have shot a few P.P.H.B. bullets from my Whitworth BSA match rifle. The pure lead bullets were given to me by a friend. I understand the bullets were swagged after casting , the swagging operation is what made the hollow base. I only fired a few at 100 yards. They did shoot well. I did witness well over 120 of these projectiles fired out to 1000 yards from 3 different Whitworth rifles last October. They did preform well. I could get bullet dimensions if you would want them . Good luck in your endeavors !

    Hi newrib.
What has prompted me to ask is that I'm threatening to get another barrel put together, this one for long heavy nominally .45-.46 diameter boolits. Among the molds in the fun box is a heavy duty RCBS paper patch hollow base that drops out at .450. I could get the barrel made to include using that particular mold along with the lubed lead molds. If so then I'd likely go with a .460 bore. But, I'm not used to using hollow bases on real heavy boolits; been shooting plain bases in my .458 bore. So thought I'd ask and see what people have been doing.

That RCBS mold, it was too long for the twist in my present .458 bore rifle.
Erik at hollowpointmold.com modified the base for me to make it adjustable length.
And provided a second plug to make adjustable length plain bases as well as the hollow bases.
    Excellent workmanship.

Just put the blocks on a set of handles. Maybe some time soon I can get some cast and patched.

I plan on trying, using the mold for the Pedersoli Bristlen Morges, a 360 grain .447 minie. I have the mold but need to make time.

What I found shooting the hollow based bullets (mini balls) is the skirt can get blown out when the loads get to heavy. That destroys the accuracy. Making the alloy harder helps with this problem.

Sounds like big bucks for that mold in the OP.
