    W296/Hodgdon H110, AA9 for cast rifle?

Alliant 2400 has been my go to .30-06 cast powder for decades. The current lack of availability, plus the absurd prices when you can actually find it, has prompted me to move on.

Since 2400 is a superb magnum pistol powder, I'm looking at powders that fill the same niche in other manufacturers lineup. But sometimes it just doesn't quite line up. I do know that IMR 4227 does give good results in the 06 with cast. But I was wondering if anyone has tried W296/H110 or AA9 in the 30-06? I never see anything in print about these guys. They are regarded as excellent magnum pistol powders, I know that much.

If not these, any other suggestions? I typically shoot 16 gr 2400 under a150 gr cast at @1600 fps in my 03 Springfields, just a nice, accurate, super easy shooting load. That's all I'm looking to duplicate, just with a different powder.

I haven’t used 296/H110 for cast rifle beyond the .30 Carbine and .300 BO.
I use Unique as the next step down from IMR 4227 and the next step up from Bullseye and Red Dot for cast loads in rifle cartridges- from 7-30 Waters to 8x57mm.

Search the site's archives for WC 820 and .30cal. cast bulllet loads.

I have tried H110/296 in my 7.62X39 and it works but there are better powders available. AA#9 is a little too fast for me. If you could find some H4227 or IMR4227 you would be better off. Hope it works out for you.

I wouldn't try it. That powder has pressure spikes with any loads with low load density.

ACC, in my original post I said I already knew IMR 4227 gave good results.

Texas by God, if 2400 is unobtainable and costs blood when you do find it, I doubt Unique is my answer.

If you could find some IMR4198 or IMR3031 that would be the best thing, but they are both as scarce as frog hair.

I use H110/295 in .22 Hornet or 218 Bee and I have worked up loads with it in the .222 Remington.
