    what's happening with coffee?

yes I'll admit it. I'm an addict and my addiction is coffee. it began when I was about 6 years old having fresh cups of coffee from grandmas percolator covered in sugar and cream. then it escalated when I was a teenager and met a columbian friend who's family would import kilos of the finest fresh roasted beans from Barranquilla.
when that was not available would have to resort to Yuban which back in the 80's was a very good coffee. but over the years things changed having never really being able to afford the best fresh roasted beans from gourmet boutiques. but then came along sam's club with 2.5lb bags of perfectly roasted high quality columbian supremo. which has been a mainstay for me for decades until now. usually any sam's would have 2 to 4 pallets of the product but this seems to have ended in the last month or so. the coffee aisle had much smaller variety and an entire aisle of boxes of ground coffee in "K" cups from many different brands. an entirely different thing than the oily fresh roasted whole beans. prices have skyrocketed. Costco has a good quality bag of column beans that is now more than $22 that just 6 months ago was much much less. ive got a bag of Eight O'Clock The Original medium roast coffee beans to try when the last of the members mark is gone.
The coffee industry is a mess right now. mass produced coffee being roasted too hot and all kinds of other stuff added to the ground coffee that is available to us all.
If your like me and have to have coffee, here is a video you might want to watch.

I suppose it may be like ketchup where there's plenty of non-ketchup ingredients in the bottle.

It is. When its the same voice you have heard on a number of other videos, the channel has less than 10k subscribers, and they drop that "what they don't want you to know" line its AI generated crap.

Its a combination of factors before and after tariffs
Bad news for coffee drinkers: The record-high prices you’re paying will go even higher when tariffs take their toll - MarketWatch https://share.google/KkbLLBctylkBmT8e2

what farmbif said - should not be any tariff impact

I like French Roast -Aldis at the moment. It seems a bit hit amd miss so I don't even think twice about dropping $100 at a time or more on coffee I like. No point in driving back there.

The tariff on Coffee is to force the coffee bean exporting countries to lower their high tariffs on US products. Has nothing to do with trying to protect the non-existent American coffee bean production.
Columbia put high tariffs on American made construction equipment, aircraft and parts, auto parts, fertilizers, IT stuff, medical equipment, grain, meat, fruit etc. hurting American exporters. The high tariff on Columbia's very large coffee export to the US is to force Columbia to drop it's high tariffs on American goods. It's to hurt Columbia's bottom line and to force them to the table.

They can grow it in California. and they are growing it there, but with Labor cost, land prices, watering cost, and property taxes are all real high. The price for Juan Valdez's coffee beans would need to be quadruple what they normally were (before tariffs) for CA to be able to be competitive.

Folgers is my everyday coffee, what use to be the 3 lb can is now 19 oz. The dollar store had them on sale last month for $8 each (4 for $32), plus there was a $5 coupon on a $25 purchase, so I made four trips, got an extra coupon on receipt for each trip. So that was $6.75 a can.
Today, I see the main grocery store has Folgers on sale, for $13.99 for a 19 oz can. I hope I have enough of the $6.75 Folgers until the tariffs go away.

I'm gonna get a big shock when I start buying the stuff again . A few years ago, a buddy scored a deal on several pallets of Dutch Bros. coffee beans, and he gave me six or eight cases. We're down to the last case. jd

Yeah, I'll buy various types, ground, folgers is the mainstay. Been buying at Sam's, earlier in the year it was $12.99 for a large 43oz canister of their classic. Now its $18.99. Still cheap. Ill buy beans a good bit and grind as needed, none of that is decent price now. But a pot a day guys....

My wife and I shop at a lot of surplus stores and never have any trouble finding coffee at decent prices. I'm easy to keep happy using breakfast blend (light roast) because I know that dark roast only cooks the caffeine out of it. It is a tool for me and strong, black and hot is good enough.

I feel like if you add a bunch of things to it that dilute it you don't really like coffee and should switch to something else.

It's market trending. There aren't many folks left who like plain coffee brewed at home with no unpronouncable 'frills'.
It's only gonna get worse. Can't see the numbers of plain coffee drinkers growing anytime soon.
That's OK. I only drink half a pot in the morning, then I'm done for the day. It's not nearly as big an expense increase as many other things too numerous to list.

guess I'm bent out of shape that the stuff I thought was good and relied upon for my daily morning ritual is no longer available but compared to increase in price in smokeless powder coffee doesn't compare. was at a pretty good sized gun/pawn shop in crossville tn Saturday saw pounds of 4227 and other powders $74.95. all the different brands of primers they had were $12.95 per 100

Interesting outlook on coffee. My parents would not let us (the kids) drink coffee if anything was added (no milk, sugar, creme aor...). I only started drinking coffee when I joined the USMC and night watches or long days needed something to keep me awake/alert. Been drinking it black since I started drinking it. There was a coffee shortage/spike in price many years ago when I first became a Marine. The Chow halls would keep the ground from the last pot; scrape 25% to a 1/3 out from the top; and make the next batch with limited new coffee grounds. Not very good; but the Mess Sergeants were able to stay on budget and still keep the coffee urns full. New times seem to be just like the old times.

These are just there to make money off clicks so the advertiser will pay a penny. There's no truth or accuracy because there is no accountability for truth or accuracy. "The FDA study". Except that there's no reference or link and when I search the FDA doesn't have squat. Just ignore this dung, don't enable by clicking.

I like getting the 2 pound or bigger bags from places like big lots, ocean state job lot, and ollies. I’ve never had none I wanted to not drink, I try to pay less than .25 an oz

Also like cafe bustelo and the aldi equivalent.

Had a K cup machine in the sleeper cab of a truck I used to drive, but I never really liked them beyond waking up in a cold truck to a hot cup of coffee in minutes.
