    Front globe sight hight

I shot at 900 and 1000 yards for my first time a couple weeks ago. My rear Mva Sight was 189 min.
For 1000 . I would like to get that down lower if possible, my front sight is the lee shaver ph
Front . I like it better than the 17a because the od is bigger in dia.( fills rear sight apature better
For me ). But it’s only .550 from dovetail to middle of apature. If I went with a taller
Front sight to get my rear sight down more I have to get the 17a. If the 17a is .850 to center of apature , would my rear sight only be that .300 down further . Since I’ve never shot with a taller front sight I’m not sure if that’s how it would work out . Thanks for replies

Wouldn’t you need a shorter front sight?

No. He is looking to lower both the front and the rear at the same time. That will maintain the angle of the barrel.

Correct the rear will come down the same amount as the front.

His POA and POI match with the current front site height and chosen rear site setting. If uses a lower front sight with the current rear sight setting, the muzzle will be higher and POI will be higher. He will be able to lower the rear sight setting to bring the POI back down to the POA.
Benefit will be in the comb/cheek weld relationship making it more comfortable and less awkward.

What determines the angle of the barrel for a 1,000 yard POI? That is the difference between the front and the rear sight. That difference is what determines the angle of the barrel. When you change front and rear the same amount that angle stays the same.

    Doug,
I use Lee’s 17A on all my rifles paired with MVA LR rears. My two LR rifles both have 32” barrels. The elevation for the 45-70 is 176. For the 45-90, it’s 153. Both are heavy PP loads. The 45-70 velocity is 1330 FPS. This may be close to your 90 with your GG load.
I switched from the PH sight to the 17A because the bigger tube of the PH obstructed my view of the number boards on either side of my target at Lodi.
I don’t think there’s a lower front sight that has a spirt level.

Well I’m just thinking because Matt told me if I want to lower my rear site get a taller front.
I got that but if I get a front sight .300 taller to center of apature, then the rear sight will come down
.300 for my point of impact to be the same correct. I guess that was my point
