There's a "few" 1911's here, with a cpl more in "midst" on the bench.... but,one particular two tone ported commander is my buddy pistol. I've had zero issues with the porting and cast BTW. What it has demonstrated is how recoil, felt recoil... can be a game changer WRT to practical accuracy. This isn't a bullseye gun,but it thinks it is...

To answer your question,in my favorite 1911..shooting 200g SWC, make it 700X..
with the note that I get to adjust the load to suit the day,and how well I'm shooting. Meaning,I don't have one load level with it... that varies.

    Good luck with your shooting.

200 grain is about all I shoot. A good 1911 is not picky with different shotgun powders. I have benched a lot of powders and with the correct load they all group. I stay with Bullseye-231-Titegroup because all can be loaded with 4.5 grains. Vihtavuori is cleaner but costs more.

I have been shooting the H&G 200 grains SWC for about 40 years with a load of 3.7 gr of Bullseye or 4.0 gr WW 231.

W231 is what I used when I was shooting commercial copies of the H&G 068.

Once I started casting, the first ~200 grain SWC mould I purchased was the Lyman 452460, so I have stuck with that boolit. It also works very well with W231.

I’ve been using Redot as of late.

I have been loading the 45ACP with the HG68 (clone) for over 40 years and can't really say I have a particular favorite. I have used a number of different powders over the years depending on what was available, all in the burning range of bullseye to Unique. Just adjusted the charge weight to produce about 900fps so I easily made the 175 power factor for the various competitions I was shooting. I have found the 45ACP/HG68 is not fussy about powder producing good accuracy with just about anything in the correct burning range. Last 5-6 years have been using HP38, AKA 231.

I'm another ww231 user, but as has been said there are many powders that will let you shoot this boolit well. I use 4.1 grains for best results in my pistols, though an old Essex framed Target pistol ran just fine with 3.3 grains.

Kind of hard not to find a accurate powder with the h&g #68 or a clone like what I cast. Mostly use fast burning powders:

    clays
    bullseye
    wst

I agree with the Dude. 4.5 grains of Bullseye for me with the #68 bullet for about 40 years
I shoot so that I can handload.

Normal stuff 4.8-5.2 grains of Bullseye for that boolit. For hot pinloads 5.7 grains.

All the above, but my Les Baer loves 700 and unique. Favorite is 6 grains of unique, 1 ragged hole at 25 yrds off a rest.

There are several powders that are accurate in the .45ACP. I would say that Bullseye is still the most popular among competitors. The common load was 3.5g with the 200. Since slide mounted optics are common place that has increased to 4.0 to 4.2g.
Known accurate powders are: 700X, VV310, Solo 1000, Clays, WW231, Red Dot.

H&G 68 is my absolute favorite for 45ACP. Don't even bother with anything else. It's just an accurate & reliable bullet in the 1911. I even use it in my 45 Colt. All with Bullseye powder.

Agree with most of what's already been posted.

Not a fan of Unique for the application. It has pretty much become a revolver powder for me; very useful in the range of +P .38's, mid-range .357's, mild .44's or .45 Colts that are hotter than Cowboy, but lighter than "Ruger Only". I've found it to be too slow of a burn to be ideal for the auto pistols.

The AMU load with a 200 was with 452AA then that powder was changed to WST. About 4 - 4.2 grains burns so clean, it loos like the gun was never shot. Produces a push recoil VS a snap and shoots clover leaf groups.

231 / P-38 is a standard as is Unique, but Unique in a 45 auto shoots well but does burn dirty almost takes a parts washer to get the gun clean after using Unique in a 45.
