    Oven issues boolits melting

I run a toaster oven with a Auber PID for a temp control

I am having trouble with boolits melting.

.452 diameter nose down on an aluminum tray

One person mentioned in another thread about radiant heat from the elements causing the boolit temp to go over the melting point.

This is my 3rd toaster oven and the only one that I have had this problem with. I have already replaced the thermocouple

Would placing a metal tray over the element mitigate this issue. I also switched from using a button thermocouple to a long rod placed at the same level as the elements. I tested the new thermocouple and its within 6 degrees of the actual temp.

This issue did not happen with either of my previous ovens

I set my Auber PID at 400 degrees in a cheap $20. Walmart toaster oven. The only time I had melted/sagged boolits was when I tried to run the temp at 425 degrees. I drilled the hole for the probe in the left side opposite the internals and about 1/2 inch below the middle grooves where the pan slides in. I also use oven liner on the pan that I bought at Walmart also. What temp is your PID set for?

If the oven has a convection setting, use that as it will help eliminate hot spots.

What kind of temperature swings are you getting using a PID? My PID gives large swings and will not hold a steady temperature in a cheap toaster oven even after reprogramming it. The factory thermostat is more accurate and I use the PID as a thermometer.

I always preheat the oven before adding the bullets.

Maybe wired different? I solved the problem, changed to my hot plate. Works great and no problem standing bullets up. Won't melt them. I remove the black alignment rig before turning the hot plate on. Actually lost it so I just stand them up by hand.
