I don't honestly use mine all that much, but I suspect my most used tools are a little pointy diamond bit and various cutoff wheels.

One thing that's nice to have is a spare flexible coupling. Found this out the hard way when mind split in the middle of a job recently. Mine is old, though, so no idea if the newer tools use this. I imagine they probably do, and for $8 it's nice to have one just in case.

I've worn out at least a half dozen Dremil tools, now I buy cheap clones that seem to last about as well.
I burn through a lot of the consumables also.
What can I say? I'm a Tinker Dink.

I didn't read every post so maybe someone beat me to this. Eye protection is paramount. Safety glasses at the minimum. Safety glasses and a full face shield are very good.

I worked in the manufacturing/metal cutting industry and have seen carbide burrs break and partially penetrate a polycarbonate safety glass lens. I like both the glasses and the face shield for my use...

For smaller projects I really like the 36" flex shaft attachment. Gives you better control especially if it needs to be precise or in tighter spaces.

The 1/8" burr sets are invaluable for "inletting stocks when bedding them, especially garands and M1As.The mounted points are very useful but you want to lightly dress them to true them up for best work and finishes. The other that dosnt seem as helpful are the cupped natural hair brushes, With a little polishing compound they can easily make a mirror

Def the cutting set georgerkahn listed. I use them more than anything. The old style red ones that are held on by a screw are cheaper, but too fragile and wear out fast.
One of the extension flex cables makes reaching inside things doable and takes the clumsy motor out of your hand. I even have the router attachment for using the grout bit and some odd jobs where you have a flat surface and want a constant depth cut or grind.
Don't bother using the grinding stones on aluminum - it just ruins the stones as the clog up fast.
If you buy a big set of stuff, you'll end up not having what you need and lots of stuff you'll never use.

An older thread, but dremel tools are always of interest.

I use both dremel and name brand bits and cheapo bits. It kinda just depends. I have a set of bits designed for fingernail shaping/polishing that I use as well, they take the 3/32 size collet. I found them in my mom's stuff.

I've found the most useful accessories are the emory wheel and the sanding discs. I often use the discs for very light grinding purposes. I use the buffing wheels a fair amount, and occasionally some of the grinding wheels. Rarely do I use the wire brush, which I thought would be one of the more used items.
