    [QUOTE=6string;5902831]Hi Quack1 and M-Tecs,
    Thank you, that is a wealth of information. Attached is another photo that shows a “W” under the base.
    Looking at the other pictures, there do not appear to be any hash marks under the screw-in aperature.

    Oh, the screw spacing on my 700 is 5/8”.

    Here's a picture of the dual hash marks on my #80. There are no code letters on the back of the base. It was on the gun when I got it, so have no idea how old the sight is.

    That’s very interesting!

    I’ve found a few Redfield sights in NOS condition. They look amazing when mint! So far, haven’t found a nice one for my LH 700.

    The one you are looking at on eBay is likely as nice as you will find. The left-hand versions are going to be a rare find in any condition. They do cleanup well

    You may want to take a look at Skinner Sights, and see what is available. I know Andy has been putting new items into production lately.
    The solid soft lead bullet is undoubtably the best and most satisfactory expanding bullet that has ever been designed. It invariably mushrooms perfectly, and never breaks up. With the metal base that is essential for velocities of 2000 f.s. and upwards to protect the naked base, these metal-based soft lead bullets are splendid.

    Forget everything you know about loading jacketed bullets. This is a whole new ball game!

    Hi guys,
    So, I made a good offer to the guy on eBay, which he graciously accepted.
    I’ll post a photo once it arrives and I install it.
    Seems like it’ll be worth documenting this little journey to get a “retro” rear sight on my LH 700.

    Next step will be taking care of the front sight if needed.

    And, again, let me express my sincere appreciation for ALL the great replies and suggestions.
    Even for directions that I chose not to pursue, it has been a valuable learning experience.

    With that style of mount the front sight should be just fine. They were designed to work with standard front sights. It's the picatinny rail mounted sights that normally require a taller front.
