Subsonic loads for suppressed 4570

Has anyone casted some 400-500 grain soft 4570 boolits for hunting suppressed? if so could you share some suggestions on Molds. Id rather not reinvent the wheel. Also Id like to hear your results on actual game.

I apologize for asking a question to a question, but why? Under 1050ish, yes it will "Keel" but also be a lobbing artillery piece just out to a hundred. Stealth hunting across a fence? Why not push it up to about 1600-1800 if not more and know your not banging your ears out and very confident boiler room to 100.

Why?..... because of liberal limits on deer in areas (states) i hunt, and in the specific public areas i hunt shots are about 90 yds max usually 50-70, I hunt for meat and have short windows of opportunity, some areas I hunt are only open for a week a yr. i have killed 2 deer and 3 hogs in a days hunt, but that is difficult to pull off. Making alot of noise doesn't help with multiples. A friend of mine started using a suppressor and is seeing and taking more game after the first shot. He is shooting a 35 whelen at supersonic velocities so maybe subs are less than necessary. I was just wondering if anyone here did shoot game with 45-70 at subsonic velocity? if they had good results? and if so some help with prefered powders, projectiles etc. I just got my first suppressor.

Why not? 1100ish fps will easily get a 400 grain boolit out to to 200 yards, I have no doubt that a 400-500 grain boolit at that velocity will make venison at 100.

Since you said thanks for any replies, I’ll toss a few thoughts out there. And from observation of your nearly identical post in the single shot section of the forum, I’ll assume you’re not going to be fretting feeding issues with a lever action. So the bullet shape won’t be limited by what feeds. Therefore I’d suggest a wide flat nose boolit design.

My 600 FPS 30 caliber boolits have unbelievable penetration on domestic hogs here on the farm. That said I’d be confident 300 grain and up 45 caliber boolits will suffice.

Small charges of fast pistol powder are more quiet than decent charges of rifle powder. So I’d start by scouring available data for loads using Red Dot, TiteGroup, Unique, and TrailBoss if you have one of those. TiteGroup is readily available. Then pick a mold for that data.

Lastly, you might add your state to your location and some of your helpful neighbors on here will likely be willing to share some samples or components to help you out.

The trapdoor 45-70 loads or similar nearly drove the American Bison to extinction. I would suggest a wide meplat bullet weighing from 350 to 420 grains driven by Red Dot powder. Start at about 10 to 11 grains and work up or down until you achieve your wanted velocity. This load will be much more friendly to your shoulder than the 1,500 to 1,600 fps load mentioned above and the deer and hogs will be just as dead. Remember, recoil is not your friend.
