So I fired off an email to Al Nelson at NOE last week, inquiring/suggesting about his connecting with LEE to possibly buy the rights and designs to his interchangeable expander plugs(notably powder-through) so they can continue being available to the mass market. I'm a recent "adopter" of these interchangeable plugs, but seeing my needs will likely cover the acquisitions I've recently acquired, I figure others might be interested in prompting LEE to connect with Al, to discuss this as an option for them to merge into their product line. I know I don't want to see these ingenious products, go away permanently
Seeing the NOE plugs were designed for LEE expander dies anyhow, and LEE being well positioned in their distribution and customer bases, particularly now that more and more people are loading in larger amounts, this could possibly benefit LEE and it not be a difficult product to add to their lineup.
Before writing this post, I've just hung up after speaking with Tammy at LEE customer support, and she suggested that I draft an email to support@leeprecision.com and suggest this in a message to them.
She says that multiple sets of eyes look over these suggestions, and she did sound hopeful about it since it would be a fully-developed product integration, not some rough idea needing extra work from an engineering perspective.
Since it is already engineered, possibly a simple contract to buy the rights from Al/NOE giving him a little more financial closure upon his retirement, a benefit to him without much extra work at all.
Maybe take some time to draft a short note via email, to the Lee email listed above if this is something you might want to support the potential of.
Suggestions:
-Include a link to the NOE website https://noebulletmolds.com
-Reference the "powder through expander plugs" which can facilitate expanding and powder-drops in one step: https://noebulletmolds.com/site/prod...r-plug-pistol/
-Mention that it is already designed for LEE factory products
-Perhaps give a little plug for Made in the USA?
I know there will be "I have a lathe and can make my own stuff" people, but most of us don't have the capacity to turn our own expander plugs. So we are customers
