century mas 36 converted to .308

So I found one of these... whats the real story on them. I know sks style safety was added. are they really safe for .308win.
or are they really only good for 762x51?

also.. I can tell the barrel was set back say half an inch..guessing to recut chamber..but what did they do for the bore? im assuming no re barrel..just setback and .308 is good to fly based on 7.84mm/.309 original bullet?

The .308 is similar in pressure to the 7.5 French cartridge; so if the chambering job was done correctly- it should be ok.

I think I'll stay on the safe side and go 7.62x51 and see how the bolt feels afterwards.

Coming from personal experience, if Century did the work, fire the first round on a strap down stand with a string to the trigger.

I may even load up some trail boss test liads for the first couple shots to see what the chamber looks like. nive heard sone of their conversions didnt fully cut the new chamber in if it wasn't set back enough.

jmho - Century sold very large quantity of them + i do not recall anyone complain about them - some of the French semi auto rifles they converted to .308 had extraction problems -
