    Goex Cowboy black powder

I was just given two unopened containers of Goex Cowboy black powder. I have always used FFF Goex in my ML rifles and have never done BP blackpowder shooting. Is the Cowboy Goex similar to 2F or 3F or is it exclusively for cartridges? How is it different? Are the pressures the same? I do have a Blackhawk in 45 Colt so what might be a light start load for a beginner (ie 20 gr by volume)?

IMO, you really don’t need to worry about starting loads. Just fill the case and go shooting. For the record, the load back in the day was40 grains. I have shot this load, and it’s a good one.

ETA: I suspect your powder is 3f, but it should be marked on the can.

That is great specific info that Cowboy is an intermediate between 2F and 3F with the hope it will be a little cleaner burning. I will be out this afternoon getting my .45 cal. rifle ready for deer season so will take some with me to compare with my usual 3F PRB loads. Thanks to all for your help. I may owe my old friend another dinner for the gift.
