I saw and held in my hands two of the new Savage .22's today. While they aren't a classic Marlin Model 39a, they aren't nearly as bad as the pictures of them on the internet.
Cycling them empty, the actions feel smoother than either an Ithaca Model 72 or the Henry which it evolved into.
One was wood stocked with slots that reminded me of M-lock slots and a threaded barrel with front sight hood, I didn't really care for it. The other one had a solid wood stock non threaded barrel and no front sight hood.
The receivers are drilled and tapped for scope bases, I do not know if they come with the rifle or if you need to buy them separate.
The sights came right up to my eye when I shouldered both, so a scope may be problematic.
I need another .22 rifle like I need a hole in my head, but they were impressive for todays rifles.
No idea how they shoot, but there are probably dozens of video reviews already.
At the very least they have to better than a Stevens Miserable Loader.
Still trying to talk myself out of one,
Robert
