What is the current status of GOEX powder? Last I heard they had another explosion and were down again.
With the 39% tariff on Switzerland, our favorite powder could get quite expensive!

Making my own. Ya, it’s a process, and if you’re a competitive shooter going through pounds in a weekend it might not be practical, but for my schedule it works out just fine.
It’s only a 100 yard target, but it can work!

This is the latest news I could find, there was an explosion last October and as of April 26, 2025, Estes Energetics had restarted production of an inert black powder substitute as a safety test. I did get some Swiss for Powder Valley recently and paid what I consider a pretty penny.

Powder plants and some others are built and designed for this. Roofs are weaker and a lot of windows. Small straight areas so explosions or fires dont travel far roofs may be blown off windows blown out to reduce drop the pressure quickly. The hodgons pyrodex plant is built like this and ran from a mile away remotely.
Powder Valley is not currently an option

Not only the fire would damage their stored products but the fire fighters foams and water would also render them unusable.
I worked at a Dupont site and some of the parking spots were cut into a cliff on three sides. They would leave one side mostly open with a thin wooden roof and this is where they ground the powder. They had dozens along a river and when one blew up it usually caused a chain reaction taking out a few more. Supposedly people in Philadelphia could hear it and count how many blew up.
Legend has it that the DuPont's didn't like Catholics. Guess who worked in the grinding stations?
