    Hoop coop build

Welp Dad has a few extra chickens and the wife likes the way they look so we figured why not get a few to go with the quail. And round here we like tractors , can't stand a chicken pen. There's a few different designs but we decided to go with a ole hoop coop I actually made one of these years back , well two actually, all welded but that was when materials where cheaper and I feel like welding more so fo this one we're doing the wooden style

Now we're only gonna have a few birds and the wife is gonna be moving it more so decided to shrink it down from the usual 8x10 to 5x10

    And here we go
Base is just pressure treaded 2x4's put together with construction screws

The actual "hoop" is cattle panel
But due to the fact I narrowed it up had to cut them down a little so there not too tall. I'm 5'1" wife is 5'3 so 5' tall is pretty good for us

So had to cut it down a little

    Much better

Now to attach it to the base , used some plumbers strap and screws

End up having a bit of a miscalculation but just moved the spacer board back some no biggie , just will give me some more room for the wheels

And the 2x4's for the door and back

Very nice. I hadn't seen any posts for a while so just yesterday I was thinking about that and hoping everything was all right.

And used some plumbers traps on the top to. Really prefer screws to nails or staples
And got the chicken wire on today. If this was hardware cloth I would have used screws with washers but chicken wire is so big I'm stuck with staples so stapled it on the bottom for now with a stable gun and I'm gonna come back in a bit and use some poultry staples next.
And for the back got a mix of treated 1x6's and cedar planks

And with the help of Mr sawzall

And the door , don't have any 4" screws so had to drill in a deep pilot and yeahhh ... Also mis measured a little again and had to rip a 1/4" off the side but looks pretty decent

And still working on everything but got the tarp set up and a rough idea of the roosting bar and nesting buckets

Good job! I have thought one of these through. In our winds, the rough chicken wire or hog panels will abrade the plastic tarp real quick. The grey, felt like under layment made for pond liners would prevent abrasion and the a pond liner makes the finest tarp you will ever find. I use them on equipment and they last almost forever. Problem is they get hot cause they're black so the white tarp is the better option. We really enjoy our chickens and the fresh eggs. I will add Guinea Fowl next spring for tick removal.

Good looking work right there. That's a great idea for a few birds.
