    Full Bore Slug question?

poured up some Accurate full bore slugs this evening. im only pushing these about 1100fps and at 50 yards they are all touching. At 100 yards they are inconsistant. Would them losing speed cause such group spread?

Yes it will but you will be stomped moving them much faster. 7-800 Gr? You can use equal or couple of grains more of Steel powder and get more velocity and less pressure

I am still using Lot #2 and will be for a few years and then I will start on the Lot #3 I have

I bet not long after they leave
It will still take a year or more before Steel and a number of other powders to be easy to get again

All that comes to mind is that they may be just into supersonic range to 50 yards then going transonic which may cause instability. Otherwise it seems odd to have a nice group at 50 yards but it falls apart at 100 yards.

I am guessing the rifling twist is the usual 1:36" or so? That should stabilize those slugs well I'd think.

Maybe try lower velocity to ensure they are subsonic and try a definitely supersonic load... which will recoil more for sure. And depending on slug weight may be difficult to achieve at safe pressure. Maybe better to reduce load and try that ~ less powder, lower recoil definitely subsonic.

All speculation on my part though as I am a smoothbore shooter.

    Good luck.

I would look at work up loads with Little Gun off shot data. It can move big payloads at lower pressures and higher velocity. Tyler of The “Shotgun scientists” has some videos on this.
