    PC or Carnauba Blue

Been shooting for groups and testing PC against regular boolit lube. Try as I might, I cannot duplicate the size or consistancy of groups using Carnaubra lube with boolits that have been PC'd.

Some PC'd projectiles with a bore riding nose won't even seat in the rifle.

The only exception has been the 270 Savage which will chamber either an Ideal 130gn cast whether PC'd or lubed.

Not many cast boolit matches here in Australia so I ask, what is preferred method for group shooting in USA?

PC adding too much diameter to nose-riders is a common observation.
Around here most of the clubs hold a monthly wood stock military rifle shoot and some of us shoot cast in those. My club stopped because people object to closing the range so 3 or 4 could shoot when the rest of the club couldn't. I have to go to another club's monthly shoots to participate with others for fun. The big shoots are organized by the national or regional associations. Most people just aren't into cast boolits.
People just aren't into cast in old or new models around here.
Edit. The rest is grump and irrelevant to the OP's Q.

Thanks for the reply K43. I am aware that PC adds diameter to the boolit but does that mean one should get a custom mold sized to suit PC?

    10 shot 30.06 at 100yds (sized 0.310" and lubed) 10 shots 7x57 at 100yds (sized 0.285" and lubed)

    This can get controversial.

IIRC Larry Gibson did some testing and found traditionally lubed bullets shot better than PC coated. Hopefully he sees this and comments.

A few years ago, I looked at the results for benchrest competitions and there were very few people using PC coatings.

There are others who swear that they get better accuracy with PC.

IMO, the opinions of people who shoot a lot and, more importantly, shoot competitively have more value.

My first time using Caranuba Red lube impressed me.

Half Dog, that is some fine shooting!
405grain is testing a custom PC bullet bore rider with an undersized nose so it will fit the bore once powder coated. I am anxiously awaiting his results. If they are good, I'll be buying a new mold.

I get better accuracy with lubed bullets.
This is a target I shot while dialing in the ingredients for Carnauba Blue.
    10 shots, 30-06XCB with the 165gn 30XCB bullet.
The 1st shot is a cold bore flyer, with it included in the group it was still under 1"
I have had some shooters tell me that their cold bore flyer with a lube cast bullet can be up to 10" outside of the group.
The Carnauba Blue seemed to be very consistenly just outside of the main group and the groups were never over 1"
I tried letting the rifle cool down 30-40 minutes between shots to test the cold bore 1st shot and it was fairly consistent. I wish I could eliminate it, but still working on that one. Atleast it's still within 1" and not way out there.
For me, I have not been able to get the tight groups with powder coating. It's much easier to PC a pile of bullets. If I push them too hard I do get a little build up of something inside the barrel.

I don't use fancy grease lubes, PC does fine for me. I got this mold with a smaller nose, CVA single shot 300 BO today, 145gr GC'd 2k fps. Smoke's red powder. 2% Sb alloy, AC. Odd balls are just old whatever ammo.

I'd take the Carnauba Blue or Red any day . When I get to where I got to paint bullets to shoot I'll just quit.

    B A W : Those groups you posted of your -06 and 7 x 57 are remarkable! Nice shooting!
