Coconut Oil

Fettled up 25 rounds 577 Snider today.
Though I'd try this lube recipe... made about 1 1/2 cups.
70% White beeswax
30% Coconut Oil
1/4 orange crayon for colour

Bullet has solid bottom with .045 deep inset for lube and 2 lube grooves (480 grain ).
Checked batch was not to soft, set a few bits out in today's hot sun.
All good.
Lubed by hand, and smells nice too.
Hopefully works out for the plinking out back.

I could not find my Imperial Sizing wax one time and used coconut oil. It worked very well as a case lube. Very cheap too.

Just be aware that coconut oil can go rancid with time. That time is shortened with exposure to light and/or heat.

Thanks for mentioning this 36g. I actually was interested in this as I have had some other mixes go a bit tainted. I shall definitely monitor.
Also, its a great excuse for smelling like the Coppertone Woman.

I've found coconut oil to be the least likely to go rancid. Canola was the worst.
I am trying the same as you with solid coconut oil. Seems to work well in 45-70 anyway.

I tell ya some of these old/backyard recipes work best. I for one got tired of trying to fill modern loads and blackpowder needs I set upon recoil therapy via youtube he did one VIA an old no longer in-print book From ingot to target. I changed his/original which is 20 ounces bees wax, 2 ounces lanolin (anhydrous), 2 ounces canola, 16 ounces Crisco I removed the canola and I use Ballistol, works for sizing, patch and bullet lube.

Rancid? I use Crisco, rancid I am not cooking or ingesting it target, plinking. Now for hunting I use the freezer kept, I do not want rancid in the food supply, rancid in the intruder, eh what do I care aint my infection

Just put a pot of water on the range drop in a block of wax a jar of vaseline and a little peanut oil and stir the mix in the hot water.
After the hot water has everything melted and blended skim a little off with a spoon and let it set to check the hardness you like.
The water puts a little moisture in the lube and this is good for keeping the fouling softer the follow up shot pushes out if you like using a blow tube. This is a good lube for shooting with out fouling control.
When you like the set hardness of the lube shut off the heat and let it cool. The lube cake will float on top and when you lift it out the pot wipe off the jell on the bottom. Use it for a dip lube or melt about 250 grams in a pie tin or bowl with water on a hot plate, let it cool and you will have a even disk about 3/16" thick you can use your loaded shell case with a card on the powder and cut a lube wad. No mess or fuss.
water is your friend melting/making lube.
