SSK 44magnum 310 hard cast bullets

Help please,
I have about 450 or so old/new stock of SSK 44
Mag. caliber SSK 310 grs. Bullets that the lube is dry and not on or between the grooves of the bullets.How would you go about relubing these bullets?

I shoot cast bullets in my 45acp and 44mag. but donÂ’t cast my own bullets.

Wondering if your bullets are coated with Molybdenum-disulfide (Moly). If so, no further lube will be required. Molly lubed cast load the same as conventional lubed. Let us know how you make out.

For relubing those cast bullets, a simple way is to use a spray or brush-on bullet lubricant made for cast bullets. Just clean them first to get rid of any old dry lube or dust, then apply the new lube carefully so it gets into the grooves. Let them dry before loading.

BIGMACJM I remember those bullets I shot a pile of them in a Super Redhawk back in the early 90s.
Could you post a picture of the condition of the lube in your bullets?
If the lube is partially broken out, you'll need to get all of the lube out for any kind of accuracy.
If you don't cast bullets and are not setup to lube, then I would suggest getting a small bottle of 45-45-10 to tumble lube them.
A little goes a long way with that lube. I'd get a clean plastic container, cool whip? put a couple of handfuls of your bullets in, then drizzle a small amount of lube over them, put the lid on and swirl around until they are all coated. I like mine to just look wet with a little tinge of brown. Other guys like a heavy coat.
Pour the lubed bullets onto an old cookie sheet lined with wax paper and set them in the sun to speed up the drying. There is Mineral Spirits in the lube that makes it thin and helps it spread, that has to evaporate.
Your bullets should be ready to load the next day.
Load and shoot a couple dozen and check the condition of your barrel. If you get any leading, you might put another coat on? That lube should be good to around 1400fps in the 44 mag as long as the bullets are the correct size for your gun.

If the lube in your bullets is all broken out and half gone? You will have to get all of the lube out. Maybe put them on an old cookie sheet in an oven at 200F until the lube melts off. You could dump the bullets onto an old towel and roll them around to get most of the lube off? Then tumble lube.

If you want to have a wax type lube back in the bullets, you might consider pan lubing? I make and sell a lube called Carnauba Blue, it's fairly easy to pan lube with if you follow the directions. I put a short 3 min video on youtube if your interested?

I would give the boolits a thin coat of Lee Liquid Alox ( LLA ) , thin the LLA with mineral spirits to a maple syrup (sorta thin ) consistency ...too thick never dries hard , stay sticky ... Not good .
Quick tumble lube w/ thinned LLA ... let boolets dry and you good to go .
Stand boolits on base to dry . Leave original lube on boolits that sticks / stays in place ... no need to remove old lube that is sticking to boolits .

Tumble 'em up with Ben's LL. Great tumble lube. Might want to do multiple coatings. Stand 'em up and let 'em dry on a sheet of wax paper. Just a dab 'll do ya. Thin coats

Take them outside put in old big pot and boil , let cool scrap the junk on top , and repeat if not clean . My 2 cents

I like fivegunner's suggestion to remove all of the old lube.
Many of the cast bullets from decades ago used a very hard brittle colored wax in the lube grooves. It wasn't really a lube, it just looked good on the bullets.
If you coat some with a tumble lube and shoot for accuracy? You might need to remove all of the lube if the bullets don't shoot straight or wobble. Check the holes in the targets and make sure they are round.
Other than the leading, the SSK bullets shot good out of my Super Redhawk.
