All this info is great, but what if I need to expand a .308 caliber neck to .412?
From what little I know about tempering/annealing, going from hot to a water quench will harden the brass, like they do that tv show forging blades.

How would I go about expanding new Norma 7.62x54R to .410x54R. ( 405 Grenadier )

The non ferrous metals and alloys (brasses, bronzes and coppers)will anneal with heat, slow cool isnt needed like ferrous materials. the quench is a plus as it keeps the heat from spreading back and going to far.

I've softened some of my old 43 Spanish with a propane torch. As others have said, a little goes a long ways, though.

Thanks for enlightening me guys. I never know non-ferrous metals were different.

I've used K&M neck turning expander mandrels to size necks up. You'd probably want to call them and see which ones you would need because I feel like that's a big step with one mandrel, if the .412 mandrel even fit into the .308 case mouth. You definitely would want to anneal before this.
