Popular cartridge/cb for deer hunting in East Tennessee/Lower Appalachians?

Any of yall live in the Lower Appalachians and can recommend what are the more common cartridges and loading for deer?

Were planning a move, and I have always liked helping people with their hunting ammo.

I'm guessing 30/30, 308 and various 7mm are the more common.

I'm probably going to have to get a heavy 7mm mold like the 160gr Lyman mold.

    Thanks for any help

308 with 1:12 twist barrel. The 35 remington is hard to beat along with the 358 Winchester. There are a lot of guys that like the 38-55, 375 Win. 44 & 45 cals. I think the 38-55 is sweet! -06

I have used a REM 760 pump in 30-06 since the eighties. Can load it down to 30/30 velocities and weights, or go on up to the wild stuff if needed. I do have a 30/30/ but always seem to take the 06.

The state you are moving to may have restrictions on what you can hunt with. Some stats require straight walled cases, no bullet below a certen diameter. I know several guys that still use an 870 with 1 oz slugs as most shots are 50 yards or less. My grandson uses a Uberti Model 66 in .44-40 loaded with Goex FFFg black powder and a 200 gr RNFP cast bullet. The longest any deer has went was about 20 yards. I don't think there is any favorite.

Are you planning on using cast only? -06

I'm trying to plan for what my neighbors may need help with, and right now I'm focusing on cast only, so, yes

Have run the gamut from the bigger - better - faster list but frankly, I'm settling on the .38-55 with a cast Ranch Dog. Nice, gentle round that - SO FAR - has dropped them where they stood.

There are some slower burning powders that really make the 38-55 SHINE!!! ---06---

For me, it would depend on the distance and thickness of cover. I like the 44 mag with a heavy bullet. My current load shoots virtually flat up to 100 yards.

I live just over the Tn. Va. line just above Kingsport & Rogersville. A Place called Blackwater. A 200 yard shot is a long one in the mountains. A 40-125 yard shot will be the averages. I use a scope because I want to pin-point a shot. & I hate to wound an animal & then have to chase it to put another shot in it. You will grow to the land & will learn how to deal with it. -06
