    Homecoming

An old project rifle of mine came home. This assemblage of odd parts is a 38 Arisaka action, a Shaw barrel, a Burris 6x Mini scope, Williams and Win 70 sights, and a Bishop Sako stock. I nicknamed it “BobiSaka” due to the 16” 8x57 barrel!
A friend has had it since 2005.
A bit loud, but a good hunting rifle.

Thanks, Mark. It is a good Truck gun!
The magazine is too short for military ammo but hand loads fit fine with their shorter COL.
I had to polish out the action mag well sides to allow the fatter bodied 8x57 to feed correctly.
I’m looking forward to shooting it a lot with cast bullets- it’s only had jacketed bullets in the past.

I like it and the workmanship also. That rifle would make a nice heavy brush hunter like some of the areas I have hunted in the mountains on the Tennessee and NC border. There were some deep hollows in those mountains that were filled with seeping springs and heavy rodendren(spelling) brush that you had to literally crawl through. Biggest buck I ever saw (or never saw) was in one of those hollows and all I got to see was a flash of the top of his antlers as he ran and they looked hug. He had to have at least 12 points on his rack. But I could not see hide nor hair of the deer himself. His hooves sounded really heavy on the stones in the wash but all I could do was look up as I was practically on my knees pushing through all that brush. I didn't even have time to get my 30-06 ready to shoot. I started avoiding those type hollows because of the frustration of trying to get a good shot. 10 yards would have been a long shot in that stuff, and that is IF you could see him at all. But that was many, many moons ago as the old Indian said. james

I have the Lee 175 gr mould but I need to cast some- perhaps it will cool down soon and I’ll get that done.
I’d love to find some Hornady .323” 125 gr sp- they were always this barrels favorite- whether it was on a Brno K98 action(1986-2005)or this Arisaka action.

Hmmm… you could also just do that bullet weight in lead… I seem to remember a mold like that somewhere in my travels.. or you could also get anything you want made at NOE and such? What a cool combo, a cast bullet and a custom brush gun…

I tried the last three rounds of 175 gr/Unique loads that I’d been shooting in my daughter’s 98 Mauser. At 40 yards, I can see potential with cast. Cool weather here today; better fire up the casting pot!
