    Kitco may be what the metal is trading at on the market but to actually go out and buy the same metal you WILL pay the going price that others are willing to spend for it. Capitalism! That is what this country is all about. Do you REALLY think primers cost 5 times the price it cost to make them 4 years ago? Not a chance in hell, this is all about what people are willing to pay and massive profits for the manufacturers.

    My solder is drippings from radiator repair shops.
    I was given most of it.
    I did buy a few 5 gallons buckets full for $15.
    I also have several rolls of roll solder that I picked up for a song at yard sales.
    Like it`s been said so many times, oh for the good old days.

    BNE has done two batches of lead testing for me. a great service to those here on CastBoolits.
    the ingots in the picture of original post
    Sample 1 Solder
    Pb = 2.4%
    Sb = %
    Sn = 94.9%
    Ag = 2.5%
    Cu = 0.2%

    pretty much pure tin. in other posts, I talk about thousands of pounds of used Linotype I have sourced. it is very dirty, almost 8# of the total weight is fines on the 16# of actual lead ingots I ended up with. tried cutting one with a cold chisel and it did not make much of a dent. future plan is after getting several hundred pounds into ingots, I will have BNE test a bunch of different pours to see if they are staying consistent. the single sample that he ran had this.

    Sample #1 Lead dirty
    Pb = 84.3%
    Sb = 12.1%
    Sn = 3.6%

    I didn't think I would need to source pure lead. looks like I will be doing some trading in the future.

    I’m curious what you’re skimming out of your hard lead. You said that the density of the alloy was very low, so I’m not surprised, just curious.

    Well, it looks like you won’t be scavenging in junk shops for pewter items for a long time.
