Yes they do. I got lucky twice. After the second one hit my hair I considered it plain dumb to continue. I just looked out there and none in sight. I think the Bifen did its' job.
I have a bunch of empty brass now and no reloading bench to load them on. Torn down pending paint and polyurethane drying.

Few years ago, a brief shower fell one day in the summer. I walked out to check the rain gauge, which was fastened to the clothes line posts. There was a red wasp nest inside the top pipe "T" which had gotten wet during the storm. That water bath apparently made the inhabitants mad, so they took it out on me - I got stung twice, even though I didn't threaten the nest. Walked back in the house and got the .410 then stuck it in the opposite end so the charge had some distance to open up. The entire nest disappeared, as did the wasps.
Did I mention I cannot stand them?

I haven't thought about this thread in awhile. The wasps are looking for winter nesting spots and my wife pointed out they were on the porch. I went out and blasted 2 with .454 Casull loads and it obliterated them.
The 3rd was flying and when I shot him a wing floated down on me spinning like a maple tree helicopter seed. I laughed out loud then looked up and the rest of him was splattered on the porch ceiling. I had a good laugh again.

These guys have been between our back door and screen door all summer. They will raise their wings in a ready posture if I stare at them too long. We walk past them multiple times per day letting the dogs out and daily routine. I fear getting hit on the back of my neck rattling the door carrying in too many bags of groceries at once, but it hasn’t happened yet.
And congratulations on your marksmanship and a successful hunt! I need to make some mild shotshells one of these days...
Thank you sir.
I had 3 wasps nesting in the upper door frame of my front door and all 3 hit me in the back of my neck one night. I went face down on the porch having no clue what had happened. I killed them that evening and shortly after I waged war on all my wasps and this thread was born. Your nest would get nuked here as I know wasps are giant jerks and have no place in polite society.
Load em up, blow em up.

I'm trying to decide if brake cleaner or guns are more effective on wasps.
I got stung on the hand this summer. I have two 275 gallon ISO totes stacked on the flatbed duallie I use to fill water barrels for the hogs. They had a fresh nest underneath the stacked upper tote. I was unaware of the nest. I gravity fill the barrels and went to wedge the end of the hose in the corner so it wouldn’t drain and get air pockets. That’s when I got stung. They promptly got sprayed with gasoline in a squirt bottle that I use to prime the carburetor. Two days later they were back on the nest again. They got doused with proper wasp spray then.
The house wasps are slightly more domesticated and we have a mutual respect for each other.
My hand was swollen for several days. I couldn’t touch my thumb to my ring finger or pinky finger for two days. Day three I could touch my ring finger and by the next morning I could touch my pinky finger to my thumb.
My friends wife told me about a plant they use for treatment of stings. She gave me a chunk of the frozen leaves from her stash. I wish I had them a week sooner...
Guns are more fun by far but I will resort to brake clean in the garage when I don't have the derringer within reach.
Mom always put wet cigarette tobacco on our stings as a kid. Supposedly brought out the venom. I don't have tobacco around here but have taken Benadryl when I have been stung and put hydrocortisone ointment on the stings with good results.

I wonder if the same treatments for poison ivy dermatitis would help with poisonous insect envenomation.

She didn’t know how to say the name of the plant in English, but this is it best we can figure out. She said to soften the leaves in a tiny amount of hot water and press them on the sting. She demonstrated with some water on the stove and handed me the leaf and pressed it firmly in the sting location. It was borderline too hot. This was probably day five. The compress was soothing and left a dent in the swollen area that was still remaining.
Benadryl gives some relief. I didn’t take any for a couple of days hoping to increase my natural immunity.
I have higher expectations for better results with this plant next time versus Benadryl.
It should. The mechanism of reaction to the sting is histamine reaction and those meds reduce the reaction.
Interesting. Many times with stings more stings trigger worse reactions to the sting. I never had bad reactions to stings until I got into a yellow jacket nest in the ground mowing in town with my push mower. Got hit 100+X. Ever since then I get a bad headache when I get stung by anything and it drags me down--very fatigued after. I get the Benadryl in immediately to decrease the reaction.

That's interesting. I'm like that with poison ivy. Every time I get it it's worse and worse. The last time I got it bad maybe 10 years ago ?? I had to get cortisol pills from the hospital. Poison ivy makes my skin burn, boil and blister then fall off in chunks like The Walking Dead. Then I started taking the pills and the rash calmed down and was tolerable two or three days later.
We’ve had a nest of the black wings on the back porch for awhile and I kept forgetting to get rid of them.
So, I pried open a 2–1/2” Monarch .410 shell and poured out the shot.
I replaced the shot with grits and pressed the crimp back in place. Then inserted it in the .45/.410 pistol……
From 8 feet away, it nuked the entire nest and occupants decisively! The Carnage!
My wife videoed it; then had to edit the expletives…..

Without further ado here is TX By God's video. I titled it "Wasps Force-Fed Grits" lol

That’s fantastic!
I’ve taken a few slow motion videos of water jug shots. I wonder if it would have worked there?
