Savage Model 25 22 Hornet Magazine Modification

I went to load some ammo for my Savage Model 25 in 22 Hornet and the cartridges would not fit into the magazine!
I was using Nosler 40gr plastic tipped that I have 1500 plus other splre point bullets that I bought for this rifle.
I figured out a way to get 0.100” more space or more but went with 0.100 to start with.

I milled out the back wall and made an insert to form a narrower back wall and added a 0.100” spacer to the follower.
I also had to cut a small piece out of the bottom part of the magazine to allow the follower to go down far enough to get the fourth cartridge in the magazine!
Now to load some Nosler 40 grain spire point bullets to see how they shoot!

I looked at the new magazine that I have and realized that the front wall is 0.125” so that means I can take 0.100” off the front wall with a 3/16-1/4 end mill and get almost as much clearance without all of the work!

High Power shooters do this when loading longer than magazine length AR15 loads, or when they are chasing throat erosion, by loading bullets farther out than normal. Simply mill a U shaped cut out of the front of the magazine, instant longer overall length. If the front of the magazine doesn't guide the bullet into the chamber, this should work in many different applications.
