Ruger Bisley grip frame to Original new model blackhawk grip frame change

    I have a Ruger Bisley 5.5" Blackhawk.
I have had it several years now and for me,
the bisley grip frame is not a great fit.

The original (new model) grip frame with,
Pachmyer ( I know blasphemy) is a perfect fit for me.

With that being said, I am going to buy a standard blackhawk grip frame
and put on my bisley ruger.

I am aware they come oversize and will require some fitting.

I said all that to ask this, what parts other than the grip frame will I need,
I know some of the parts are not interchangeable between frames,
trigger, hammer, grip frame screws etc.

Looking for advice from those who have gone before.

    Thank you

The Bisley g/f uses a couple of allen head screws at the top of the "ears" to mount to the frame. Standard screws will be needed, at least 2 of them. A Bisley hammer & trigger are also different than the normal Blackhawk ones.
The (5) frame mounting holes are the same across the Blackhawk line. No problems swapping parts. And the hammers & triggers can & will swap around. You are incorrect in thinking they won't swap around. New Model to New Model.
If you buy a g/f "in the white" you will need to fit it. But if you buy a "used" or "take off" one,, it'll likely be a very close fit.

Many of us have swapped around parts to better suit our desires.

The ONLY potential issue you MIGHT run into is an older g/f has small protrusions to fit into a recess in an older main frame. This original design was to add alignment & fitting. it was discovered it wasn't really necessary,, so it was eliminated. If your frame has the recessed slots,, any g/f will work. But if the frame doesn't have the recess cuts,, and the g/f has the "ears" to go into it,, you will either have to mill/file them off or get a later production g/f. If you buy a current mfg g/f it won't have the protrusion ears for the slots.

    So, to swap things,, a g/f, a hammer & trigger & a pair of screws. Then you'll have a Blackhawk,, & not a Bisley.

Contender1, That is exactly the information I was looking for.
My Bisley is 8 or 10 years old, Hopefully I can get a current grip frame and
    won't have any protrusion issues.

    Thank you

A plus will be that Bisley g/f is a highly saleable part. Many shooters are looking and pay a good price to ease the pain of change over. On SASS wire you could probably trade for what your looking for GW

Tyler Gun Works usually has take-off grip frames for sale. Also Ronnie Wells in Houston makes a line of variously shaped grip frames for Blackhawks.

I too don’t get along with the Ruger Bisley GF. Standard Blackhawk is good for me. But the original small frame Ruger flat top 357 frames are a better fit for me, right there with Colt SAA.

The 2 most important ingredients of effective hand-gunning are grip and trigger. Get those to fit you and the rest is small stuff.
