The CB on the right is a NOE/ C.E. Harris bullet @ .316" and ~ 162gr. The left hand one is a Lee bullet for the 8mm Mauser, which I forced through a Lee sizer to ~.316" (better to do this in a regular lube sizer, if you can) and weighs ~ 177gr. It is more accurate than the NOE/Harris CB, but it is a PITA to resize (GC included). No crimp is applied to my CB loads for the SKS.

It starts with post #7 in this thread; https://castboolits.gunloads.com/sho...92s-load-tests

I can repost the photos if they're wanted?

Please tell me this thread isn't dead. Was looking forward to some more real-world results to study. Satisfied with my own, just looking out of academic interest.

Still alive! The local range has been closed down forever after heavy rains wrecked the berms. Just sent off my membership application to a club so should have some test results soon.

Finally made it to the range. I used 2400 14 gr, 14.5 gr, and 15 gr. The 314299 were 207gr. None of the loads would cycle the action. The 15gr was enough to have stovepipes. The group with the 15gr was quite nice. I think it will take up to 16 gr to cycle the action, but this exceeds the CE Harris recommended load of 15 gr. I’ll try 15.5 and 16 next and look for pressure signs. OAL was 2.20

Fox, I had some violent extraction and ejection issues using 15 grains of 2400 in my Yugo SKS. Be careful approaching that load! I did not notice any pressure signs on the brass, just lots of recoil and muzzle blast.

Hopefully I can get reliable ejection with 15.5 gr. I know 2400 may not be the best but I have lots and I’m hoping it’ll work out. Powder is scarce here and I’d like to save my 4895. I can get leverevolution but don’t feel like dropping 90 bucks for a pound

Yup that’s the local shop here rural Canada. I can get it online for $60 but there’s $30 shipping on that. So either way I’m paying.

I switched things up and went to the saeco 305 at 180gr. Had reliable ejection at 15.5 gr of 2400 but groups were poor. Tried 21 gr of IMR 4198 and it shot beautifully with perfect ejection. I’m trying to post a picture but for some reason can’t get it to upload. I’ll give the 314299 another try hopefully this weekend.
