    38 RF extra short

I guess I should have known it was a thing but I didn't until today when I got a package that was susposed to be 29 rounds of 38 RF long that turned out to be 27 rounds of 38 RF short, one round of 38 RF long and one round of 38 RF extra short.

I am not going to complain about the mix up by the seller. I am happy with the deal and pleased as punch to have the 38 extra short.

Your 38 Extra Short looks suspiciously like a 41 Short for all the little pocket derringers. Some measurements may be required.

You are correct, I was putting the ammo away and that one would not drop into the cartridge tray. It is a 41 short so maybe there is no .38 extra short after all. I see now in the picture it is fatter.

In my experience, at least one of everything exists.

    HumptyDumpty:

There actually is a rimfire 38 Extra Short, made by C D Leet during the 1862 to 1864 time period. This incredibly rare round is pictured in John Barber's book on page 4, and I actually lucked into one years ago. It stands out as the little brother to the standard 38 Short and Long, and has the difficult to find C.D.L. head stamp.

I'm not sure what firearm it was designed for...........
