While rummaging through stuff in the garage, I came across a bolt of 100% acrylic felt, probably something I picked up at a yard sale. The fabric appears to be around 1/8" thick. I realize that wool felt is preferred for making lubed wads; however, I'm wondering if I punched out wads from the 100% acrylic felt and then lube them, would a thick card over a black powder load in a 45-70 eliminate/reduce any possible melting of the 100% acrylic in the barrel? If melting is a problem, would the thick over powder card shove it on down the barrel and out the muzzle? Just wondering...(By-the-way, I purchased a 100% wool sweater at Goodwill, washed it, and then threw it in the dryer. The result was a sweater that was shrunken in size and thicker to the feel. Hopefully, it will prove to be satisfactory for punching out wads. I've got hollow punch hex shank drill bits coming from Amazon so as to make some wads and over powder cards.) While I could probably purchase card and wads cheaper that I will eventually make them, what's the fun in doing that?
