Nickelite bar Compostion

I have one bar of this stuff but it pops a once in a while. Not sure but might be 5 LB's. Looked it up and found this. Nickelite Babbitt Metal, 6-7 lb. Ingot (Specialized Use)

89% TIN, 7.5% ANTIMONY, 3.5% CU, AND ALUMINUM. Brinnell at 215 degree's is 16.6. Also see where it sells for $225 for a 7 LB shiny new bar but scrap dealers wouldn't pay 10% i'd bet. I mixed a bar about 50/50 with lead once and poured 230 grain 45 ACP bullets, no wonder they looked so good.

You shouldn't have melted it 50/50 with lead. Depending on your alloy very few people use 5% tin for paper shooting and most use maybe 2%. So you should have mixed the bar 1:20 to 1:40 with lead. Do you still have the bullets? Don't shoot them and recast with a lot more lead. If you can find some wheel weights to add even better.

I always thought aluminum was undesirable in a mix but if it casts OK go for it.

I see people asking about these bars and i found the ingredient thought i would put it here. When i poured those i had no idea what it was just trying it out. They shot fine sized at .452 and tumble lubed. I got all the lead and tin i need and 30-50 LB's of wheel weights from before 1975 i got from a 90 year old duck hunter. he gave up casting .44 pistol bullets but still did PB decoy weights for friends, gone now about 15 years.
