I recently got a Topper .410 barrel for a good price because it was drilled and tapped crooked. A lot.
As a matter of fact, Seven 6-48 holes and a single 8-40 hole.
Three of them had white silicone caulk inside that I had to dig out…..
So, I used old scope mount screws to plug the holes, then bench ground them close, then filed them flush and sanded them and the barrel with emery cloth.
Plum Brown was used for a finish.
It fits and fires perfectly on my .218 Bee Topper- so it worked out well!

Came out nice!

I’ve seen the same done but once the screws were trimmed to about 1/8 above the surface they were peened to sweep the metal out. Kind of like peening on knife bolsters. It helped hide the halo from the screw to the barrel.

When I was a young’n rancher neighbor ordered one of them scope sights out a the Monkey Ward catalogue and after looking through the bore while lining the surplus aught six up on something over on the neighbor’s property clamped the old musket down good and solid before doing the same with the scope, rings and bases. Tacked it in place with a stick welder, fine tuned it with pry bars and then gzzzzzzzt, gzzzzzzzt, gzzzzzt.

When I was a kid Ol man Wagner who ran a sawmill and hunted (and not much else) had one of the .300 magnums in a new rifle.

3 trips in a row his scope/rings/base gave him problems. Buddy of mine who operated a shoe store/sporting goods shop offered his help solving the problem. The 2 worked together to fit a new steel base, and steel 2 piece rings and remounted scope. Verified that it was on target at the correct range. Then Wagner welded it up. My buddy did loc tite the 2 piece rings, so if he ever needed to replace the scope he could. He was a critter killin legand after that. Deer, elk, moose, bear, I think he even got one of those big Alaskan browns.

I wonder why anyone would want a scope on a .410 in the first place.
But I was born in rifle country so there’s that.

Looks good too me. Probably be the best shooting 410 you have.

I saw a Topper 410 in a gun shop recently that had a set of sights glued on. Stuff had oozed out, looked like they had cleaned it up using the finger swipe method. Figured someone wanted a 410 for a kid to turkey hunt with. It wasn't in real nice shape and they wanted what a nice one should go for. I didn't think the glued on sights added any value.

A set of sights would be fine if mounted properly and would zero in with my RB load.
