I found out today that one of the rotors for my Lyman accumeasure throws exactly 10 grains of Unique. I think it is #11.

I remember reading about "The Load" from C.E. Harris, and was happy to know that such a thing existed. If memory serves, 13.0-13.5/Red Dot/150 gr. cast will give 1500-1800 f/s, depending on the cartridge of interest, barrel length, moon phase and some other things over which shooters have less control.

The 10.0/Unique/150 load always made me wonder if it was not intended to push cast bullets at velocities hovering around 1000 f/s. Using a propellant with a significantly slower burn rate, in a charge weight that was ~26% lower seemed unlikely to duplicate the ballistics of the Red Dot load, but I'll admit to never having tried it. I was gratified to read the posts of several more experienced reloaders, in which they said that 10.0/Unique was very much a starting load, and often 11-12 gr. was necessary for the brass to seal the chamber.
I surmise that 10.0/Unique is an excellent starting point which errs on the side of caution, while the 13.0-13.5/Red Dot load is more of a universal "middlin' to semi-max" load.

10 Grs. Unique. The Universal Cast Boolit Rifle Load?

I was testing a very old scope today.
Ten grains of Unique with the Lee C309170F
Five shots at 40 yards with the 30-30.
    Fun stuff!

I always twitch a flyer in there but this is 10 grs Unique in the 44-40/200RF and the lower pic is 12grs Unique in the 7.65x53/155 Lee.
5 shots each at 40 yards because I’m lazy.

I agree that the 10gr of Unique is a great load and I use it in my Marlin 1893. 38 55. Now that the Allliant products are disappearing what is the replacement for Unique ?

A 295 gr bullet is heavy for a 41 mag. Unique is on the fast side for a 41. If you are looking for a plinking load, Unique might be Ok, but velocities will be very modest. After a quick look at Quickload, I would lean towards a range of say 4.5 gr to 5.2 gr for plinkers.

I tried 10 grains of unique with a .311 (30/30 cast bullet no gas check installed ) - 172 grain in a .303 Enfield jungle carbine. Powder coated and sized to .313". 8 shots ran 1322 fps 21.8 spread 6.4std dev. It was pretty close (distance) so I can't say just yet about the accuracy, but I wanted to get numbers mostly. I look forward to trying this at 50 and 100 yds.
