Long but an excellent piece of writing. james
Agreed. I've been using some of his data for unique powder with 260 cast/240 Sierra JHP/250 XTP/260 Speer JHP and he goes as high as 12 grains. I went 11, 11.2, and 11.5 and I don't think I'll go any higher. It's a handful for sure. When I decided I wanted/needed a 45 colt, I specifically went with a super blackhawk for the ability to get the max potential out of the 45 colt.

I only use really heavy charges like those in my Contender pistol. It can take loads that are right up there with .44 mag loads.
I believe you may find the Redhawk to be stronger than the SBH and for sure the Super Redhawk is MUCH stronger than the SBH.
RH cylinder webs are .047" on the BH and SBH cylinders, and .068" on the RH cylinders. HOWEVER, this is not where you need to be concerned, the weakest point of the 6 shot cylinder is the thickness of the cylinder wall at the bottom of the bolt notches.
The RH has a larger diameter cylinder with thicker cylinder walls and I do not have good quoted measurements comparing the bolt notch thickness between the BH and RH cylinders. My suspicion leans toward the cylinder wall thickness below the bolt notch being thicker on the RH cylinder because of the larger OD of the cylinder.

My parkinsonism that controls walking and balance has made me unable to work in the shop. VOTE RED * PRAY OFTEN You are welcome to message me here or send email to xlordsguitars@gmail.com.
No arguments here, but I prefer a single action for my big bore revolvers. I do own a few S&W revolvers and I like the lines of the RH, but I can't get past the barrel shroud/frame extension of the SRH. No doubt it's a well engineered revolver, but I find it down right ugly. I owned one in 44 magnum and didn't like it's balance either.
