Congratulations!
Due to the price of primers, warning shots will no longer be given!
Nicely done.
I still haven't managed it yet. I've killed a lot of them with handloads but never a cast boolit yet.

Nice deer. What alloy? What range?

Great Hunt! & Thanks for sharing! -06
Nice tag…rifle too with that fluted barrel

Congratulations & well done with a nice looking cast bullet. I'm guessing your next one will be with a HP as well. I shot a very large muley buck with the old Gould 330 gr cast HP years ago in the Selway country. He didn't have a big rack but body wise he was huge, we had a real struggle getting him loaded on the horses. I was using one of the first Ruger #1's in 45/70 & later sold it to Jed Wilson, I think he was the chief of police at Salmon, Idaho.
I stopped in Salmon later in the week & bought another book from Elmer Keith & took a photo of him holding his engraved Ruger #1 375 H&H.
Well done indeed. We collected two small muley does with my 8 x 54 Krag Jorgensen cast bullet gun last year. Saeco's 190 grain 8mm cast in hard shot, sized to .323 fired through a surplus '93 Turkish barrel loaded to 1700 fps. The bullets whistled right through like low velocity solids. Wifey missed the spine on deer #2 by about a sixteenth inch or she would never have moved. Deer #1 I hit though the lungs about an inch forward of the liver, missed the heart she moved 25 yards before she folded. I could use another 200-300 fps to get this alloy opening up better, but probably will have to go to a slower twist to get it. Both animals did not go far and were followed up easily.
Very nice, congratulations. What rifle is it?
Congratulations! You were lucky to actually catch a 45-70 bullet in a deer. I see that you did it by shooting it end-to-end. Plus being a hollow point didn't hurt either. I've killed 10 deer with cast so far and have yet to have one stop a bullet. Looks like your bullet worked well since the hollow cavity opened all the way and peeled back to the shank. Now all you need to do is keep using it to get more deer. There's something satisfying in getting a deer with a bullet you cast yourself once you decide to start making your own. It's not that hard, you just got to jump in there and do it.
Oh yeah, I love that rifle!!
