7.0 might be your lucky number. I use Unique or Herco at 8.0 with the 152 grain 311-466, but that might run a little rich for Reddot.

I have some herco and unique also but almost out of unique. I have great luck in most guns with herco but everyone seems to like red dot also and my lgs just got some in that was backordered 3.5 yrs so I grabbed some.
4.6 Runs nice with the little swc .314 90 gr sized down to .312.
For 150 gr I would probably go up from there to 7 and see where I get good accuracy.
There are other powders that can get you more speed in many cases.
But few that sip so efficiently with so little impact on your wallet.
I realize that B'Eye and R-Dot are not the same powders , but on a burn rate chart , they are similar.
I use 7.0 - 7.2 Grs. of B'eye in a lot of 30-30 rounds with fantastic accuracy.
I shot this a few days ago.
I had loaded 20 rounds with the Lyman 311359 in neck turned 30-30 brass with the 311359, sized to .310" with 7.0 grs. of B'Eye with a Wolf Large Pistol primer. & .014 " thickness Al g/cs that I make. Scope is a fixed power Burris Fullfield 6X.
20 rounds fired @ 50 yards.
Old thread, but nice shooting Ben!
Looks like the perfect squirrel rifle to me. Good job Ben!
Take care all!

At 9 gr, accuracy drops off with 170gr PB.
Whatever!
I love reading about other's successes using small doses of fast powders and cast
the heavier the boolit, the better I like it, but sometimes compromise is required to get accuracy like Ben. (I sure wish I loved closer to him so I could get some mentoring!)
my ultimate goals are:
1) off the deck deer rifle load.... shots inside 50 yds
2) off the deck 'yote rifle load.... " " 50 yds
3) regular hunting rifle load.... " " 200 yds
4) regular 'yote rifle load.... " " 200 yds
5) FurFriendly 'yote rifle load.... " " 100 yds
for the deck gun, almost anything will do. I have read about success 100grains and up, 900fps and up
for the regular hunting gun, 170-200grains is most often successful with MVs anywhere from 1500-2400fps
I have quite a few 30-30s.
3 bolt action Savage/clones
2 break action Savages (I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the styling on these!)
2 Handi rifles (one with 18" barrel)
1 158
1 157
1 very old Win94
1 not as old Win94
one of my Savage 219's is going to be AI'd and loaded with 125-130gr hard wrapped bullets
one if my Savage 219's is gong to be dedicated to PP'd boolits
(I Think?!?!?!?!)
ARRGGGHHHH!!!!!
I am overwhelmed with options...

I'm still at 8 grains Red Dot under any 150-170 grain lead bullet in 30/30.

I have had some success with fast powders but it seems more medium burning powders work better for me. This is a 30-30 Win, 99 Savage, @ 50 yards with iron sights.
In my 94, 7.0gr of RD give me 1.5moa at 100y with 160gr cast. 1200FPS.

I use 8.2 Grains behind an old NEI 170 bullet. Works great on hogs and paper!
If you are going to make a hole in something. MAKE IT A BIG ONE!
In My Encore and Marlin 336, I get good results with 150 gr. cast bullet over 7 grs. Red Dot or 8 grs. BR-5 sparked off by a Win Large Pistol primer.
