They are asking a dollar a block but I believe they are much bigger blocks

Usually, casting alloys are priced per pound. Your description makes it really difficult to give a decent answer. I agree $2.00 per pound for Monotype. Just remember that Mono is usually in small individual letters to be set by hand.
That's what I was thinking but the seller says she doesn't have a scale so I'm not sure what to do
You could take a scale with you.
I have used one like this for the last few years and it has worked pretty good:

A dollar a block means they are trying to sell letters to collectors, not scrap alloy to a caster. Doesn’t sound good on its face. Ask them price per pound and see what they say.

I paid $2/lb for the last monotype I bought and that was type in the original paper/twine packages. All the same letters like it was sold. Bought it more for the novelty as I have over 1000lbs of linotype and 200lns of mono/stero already.
Nearly 20 years ago I had a booth at one of those “Antique” Shops... I had a basket of the large type letters for sale at about fifty cents each IIRC. Not a fast mover! I still have a couple of hundred pounds I plan to sell by the SFR Boxful at about two dollars a pound. A little of this stuff goes a long way hardening your bullet alloy!
