Is anyone familiar with a Chromalox 50 Lead smelter. A guy here locally has one for sale. Thanks, Rob

I have the smaller pot, the "15" it is 500 watts. Works well for samller casts,
but when smelting large amounts of alloy mine is lacking due to small size. The 50 is much larger
and should be able to handle larger melts.
How many watts is the model 50?
What is he asking for it?
I just got back from plugging it in and it works fine. I gave him 80.00 for it
It sounds like a good find.

It weighs 50 lb. But it looks as though it will hold a lot of lead
I think you did very well buying the Chromalox melting pot.
I think you did well. I have never heard of a Chromalox pot, but those RCBS ladles are going for close to $30 now.

Does it have a temperature adjustment?
It should be no big deal to add an inline PID.
Well I took the old cord and 2 prong plug off and put a new cord and 3 prong plug on and fired it up for a test run. threw a 5 lb ingot in and it took about 35 min for it to start melting. I think this is gonna work.
My pro melt will do 17lbs in that same time. 800 watt rating.
Do you have much experience with high temp appliances?
You must remember that this pot is made of cast iron, not a steel pot.
It takes some time to get to temperature.
