This turned up on my FB page and there was a photo of smashed potatoes! They looked irresistible and they delivered as good as they looked in the photo.
You use a small potato with skin on, boil it or nuke it until it's ~almost~ fork tender (1min 20sec each side for two potatoes) place the potatoes on a plate or cutting board, and smash slowly and evenly with a pot, plate, saucer, etc, until the potato breaks the skin and collapses to about 5/8" to 3/4" thick, butter the skin both sides then add salt, pepper, rosemary/garlic seasoning, everything bagel seasoning, whatever you like, grill on a hot oiled iron griddle until browned and crispy.
The recipe is for the taters but it cooked the steak perfectly too!
